Why Do I Hear Someone Calling Out My Name

Why do I keep hearing someone call my name?

All the people who are going to call me things, could you please spare me of your insults? >_<

Anyway, I know that hearing voices is a sign of serious mental health issues. When I saw a psychiatrist 2ish years ago he asked me a few questions like if I ever heard voices (calling my name, telling me to do things etc) and at the time I didn't so I said no, and asked why. He said something like "it's just to rule out that you aren't seriously crazy" (of course he said it in a nice way).

Soon after that I started hearing what I thought was my mum calling my name but just put it down to paranoia of the Dr's words and it went away soon after.

But now over these school holidays, especially the last few days, it has started again. I'll be at the computer talking on MSN, being on Bebo, that type of thing and listening to music and then I'll hear a voice say my name.
I'll pause my music to see if Mum is calling me (instinctive reaction, I guess). When I notice she's not I'm kind of scared and just ignore it.
I've started to realise it's not my Mum's voice, but it's always a female voice and it usually either sounds like my Mum or my older sister, who is the room next to mine. But I guess my mind just thinks it's them because they call out to me sometimes, I dunno..
But yeah, these voices happen at random times, and usually in clusters of 3-5 "hearings" in a set time frame, say 3 days. It's not regular or anything, and I swear I'm not THAT f***ed up in the head >_<

I just want to know what they are, what they mean and why I hear them? If anyone could help me...?

Have you ever heard someone call your name?

Not weird. GOD can call you by your name if He wants to. If you hear your name called again say: "Speak Lord, your servant hears" or "Here I am" Genesis 46:2 (Amplified Bible)
2And God spoke to Israel in visions of the night, and said, Jacob! Jacob! And he said, Here am I.
1 Samuel 3:4 (Amplified Bible) 4When the Lord called, Samuel! And he answered, Here I am 5He ran to Eli and said, Here I am, for you called me. Eli said, I did not call you; lie down again. So he went and lay down.8And the Lord called Samuel the third time. And he went to Eli and said, Here I am, for you did call me. Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy.
Isaiah 45:4 (Amplified Bible) 4For the sake of Jacob My servant, and of Israel My chosen, I have called you by your name. I have surnamed you, though you have not known Me.
Isaiah 43:1 (Amplified Bible) 1BUT NOW [in spite of past judgments for Israel's sins], thus says the Lord, He Who created you, O Jacob, and He Who formed you, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed you [ransomed you by paying a price instead of leaving you captives]; I have called you by your name; you are Mine.

What causes dreams where you hear someone calling you and you wake up but you never discover who it was?

The dreams that are clear in your mind of where you may feel that the voices where you can clearly hear, and still feel it ringing in your ears when woke up are caused when one is physically and spiritually weak. If you are a Christian, I would strongly suggest that you talk to your local pastor/priest to pray for you. I have a testimony below, and I hope that helps. This is not God speaking to you because he will always reveal himself.

I hear people call my name, but no one is calling my name?

I'm a 15 year old girl and I sometimes hear people call my name. I do remember in 3rd grade when I was going back to my classroom and someone tapped me on my shoulder and I looked back and no one was there. Anyway, these voices happened a few weeks ago. It's usually a young woman calling my name. One day I was going to the car because my mom was going to drop me off to school and as I was walking to the car, I heard someone with boots on following me really close. I looked behind and I saw my stepfather but he didn't have any boots on and he was locking the door and his shoes don't make a noise. These voices don't come everyday though. Recently, I was shopping with my friend and I heard someone call my name and last name....it was really odd. My grandmother passed last March so sometimes I think it's her, but then I don't think so because I always hear a young woman. Then I heard my name while I was in the car with my mom. I pray every night, and these voices don't bother me and they don't come really frequently. Then one day at school, I was walking to lunch and heard someone call my name. What do you think? I told my mom and she told me that I might be a medium, but I don't know.

Why do I sometimes hear someone yelling or shouting my name when no one is there?

Why do I sometimes hear someone yelling or shouting my name when no one is there? It happens to many people. It’s a normal function of your subconscious. It isn’t a ghost, or any other supernatural being. It isn’t likely to be a split personality, or any other disorder. It isn’t likely to be a misinterpretation of other sounds in the environment.Your name is one of your prime identifiers of your own personal existence. It’s very important to you, one of the first sounds you really understood you should respond to, and it’s naturally the sound most likely to grab your attention at any time. It isn’t only available to people around you, it’s available to your subconscious as well.People hear their name subconsciously shouted for various reasons. It sometimes happens to me if I’m unexpectedly falling asleep during the day. I become aware that Im waking up and I have a very clear memory of having heard someone shout my name just a second before awaking. They woke me. Who was that?I sometimes encounter it while I’m driving on a boring road. I hear my name shouted, and I realise that for a moment I don’t know what point of my journey I’ve reached. My subconscious is calling me to attention because it thinks I missed a turning. It is absolutely a completely normal thing. My GP suggested that these things happen less if we have a better sleep pattern. If we THINK we have a good sleep pattern, it maybe that we’re not getting deep sleep. Stress, something wrong in the diet, overwork, underwork, the need to achieve, all these can lead to subconscious prompts like being called to attention, especially when you think you’re relaxed.

Why do I occasionally hear someone calling my name but no one did?

HelloSometimes, when I listen to certain songs, it sounds like someone is calling my name. The first few times I noticed this, I was sure someone was calling my name, but over time, I have learned that it is just the sounds of the song.Sometimes, however, I think someone is calling my name, and I look around and see no one, and assume that my ears are playing tricks on me. Then, later, a friend will tell me they saw me and were calling my name, and I looked all around, but didn’t see them and kept going.Once, I was lost on a mountain. I thought I heard someone calling my name, but I saw no one. Later, after I was rescued, I learned that my Dad was standing on another ridge, and saw me, and was calling to me.There’s also the possibility that someone is calling your name from another world in the space time continuum.

Anyone ever hear someone call your name when no one's there?

Last night I was in the restroom and I heard my dads voice call my name, and it sounded like it was right outside of the door.I opened the door, and he was not there. He was fast asleep in his room.Im guessing this is just a normal mind trick that everyone experiences at some point? Its only been one time, so it shouldnt be anything to worry about even though I have genetic predisposition and environmental factors that make me a likely candidiate for schizophrenia. If I hear a voice again any time soon, that's when ill become worried lol

I heard someone call my name???? what does it mean?

OK, I doubt you'll choose this as best answer because it is not a pleasant thing to hear, but you shouldn't rule out the possibility of psychotic symptoms. The disorder of schizophrenia is marked by the presence of auditory hallucinations. As these symptoms emerge, they very often may be experienced simply by hearing someone calling your name. This may be all a person ever experiences. However, in the more severe cases, the symptoms progress to the extent that a person may not only hear increasingly distressing things, but these auditory hallucinations may be accompanied by visual hallucinations (seeing things that aren't there).

I am not trying to discredit anything anyone else has answered already, but it seems irresponsible to not offer this explanation. If a person truly has Schizophrenia, it is careless to simply accept their symptoms as true phenomena.

Again, I am not saying that what you heard doesn't have a supernatural origin, but explore the possibility of a medical source. Ask yourself if there is any history of mental illness in your family, specifically of psychotic symptoms such as paranoia, hallucinations, delusions, etc. Were you under the influence of anything. I have worked with folks that were, although a bit odd, otherwise totally normal (i.e. asymptomatic). However, smoking some pot was enough to push them over the threshold and they would hear voices (specifically their mother calling their name; and mom was still alive so nothing spiritual there). They never heard any voices unless they were high. No need for medications, just sobriety.

If you have any other questions about my answer, edit your original question and I'll check back and give more details.
