Why Do I Look So Ugly In Photos

Why do I look so ugly in photos?

Phone cameras have wide angle lenses. When you hold one at arms length too close to your face, the lens distorts your features, and that's why you look ugly. Of course, the same is true for any camera with a wide angle lens held too close to the subject.

Here's how to take a decent photograph of yourself

1. Use a camera with a zoom lens (not a phone, they don't have zoom lenses). It doesn't have to be an expensive camera. Even cheap point and shoots have optical zoom. Borrow one if you have to.
2. Use a tripod, or put your camera on a flat level surface like a shelf/table.
3. Make sure you are at least 2 meters (2 yards) or more from the camera. Frame the shot by zooming in.
4. Use the self timer to fire the shot or enlist the help of an assistant to press the button.
5. Avoid flash, it's not flattering. Avoid harsh bright sunshine, also not flattering. Diffuse lighting is best. During the day outdoors find somewhere in the shade. If indoors by a window is a good place. The lighting needs to be coming from the side, or behind the camera. Do not point the camera towards a light source.

Why do I look so ugly in Photos? Is it me?

Well i used to wonder the same before i started studying photography, i can tell you this could be for 2 main reasons..

1. you are taking the pictures from the wrong angle, example: if you take a picture of your face from a down angle, you are going to look with a double chin, if you take it from upper angle you are going to look skinnier.
you also should take a picture of you in every single profile until you find the best for you.

2. For self pictures put your camera as far as possible from your face and if you wanna take a closeup ALWAYS use your ZOOM, but NEVER put your camera too close because that just gonna make your face look weird. example: a bigger nose, a bigger forehead, ugly lips.

I hope this helped you!!

(English is not my first language so sorry if a messed up!)

Why am I so ugly and I never look good in any photo?

It’s clear from the responses here that you aren’t what most people would call “ugly,” and I’d agree that you are average looking, like nearly everyone else on the planet, but I’m going to give you a different answer than simply “You aren’t ugly!”The reason you don’t look great in photos is a mixture of a few things. There are typical camera shot stuff, like lighting, the angle of the camera, the lens, etc., but then there’s also some other things involved, too: your face is mirrored to what it normally looks like to you. You’ve never seen yourself in person and I read once that a study showed that, if you saw yourself in person on the street, it’s likely you wouldn’t recognize that person as you because you see yourself so differently than what you actually look like.Beyond these important factors, you’re no longer 3-dimensional and fluid when you photograph yourself or others. This means that you’re captured in a 2-dimensional image, often with different aspects magnified beyond the span of a normal human eye, and all of your little nooks and crannies and nuances and freckles and bumps or curves and wrinkles and dimples and everything else that makes you who you are is forced to lie flat, 2-D in a world that’s normally 3 or more. Obviously, if you’re not a professional who is being told what to do and how to pose, you’re not exactly going to catch every single one of these teeny tiny things perfectly, especially with a mediocre phone or digital camera or a webcam. It just doesn’t work that way.Accept it. Move on. You’re not drop-dead gorgeous, but you’re certainly far, far, far from ugly. Photos don’t do us justice, honestly, and please don’t base your worth on a few 2-dimensional images of someone you wouldn’t even recognize off the street if you ran into them.

Why do I always look ugly in photos?

I have a slightly crooked/bent nose.
It isn't really visible in real life.
When i look at my self in the mirror it looks straight and nice.

But when someone takes a picture of me from directly in front of me, my nose looks VERY crooked and i look ugly, alot uglier than IRL.

But then again, if i take a picture of myself in the reflection of the mirror, it looks straight and i look normal.

It annoys me, i don't want to have to shoot all my photos through a mirror lol.

And also, do people see the mirror face of me or the photo face of me?

Why am I so ugly in photos?

Some people are more photogenic..This is also the reason models get paid so much, they are able to look great more often than not, unlike the "regular people." lol!

Most of us will have a few photos that look like us, look good, and the good ones are consistent in their appearance. A bad color tone will make someone look ill, or even anemic. One side of the face is better looking than the other. My son is really good looking. Some pictures, I wonder why in the world he looks so bad? It can be a particular time set of photos, the color surrounding him, something he ate, too much salt, sugar (face has a pallor), stress, being over-tired...and then others where he looks great in every single one, taken at the same time.

Take one of your photos of your face, straight on, (facing you) so you can see both sides equally.. Stand a mirror down in the center of your face, halving your nose, forehead and chin, so that one side is reflected back onto the mirror. You'll have a mirror image of one side of your face(duplicated). See how this looks to you. Then do the same thing to the other side of your face.

Is there a big difference? Most people don't realize how each side of their face is so different. The best way to verify this is with a mirror. Try to have your photos taken of the best side, and you'll turn out better looking in those pictures, and check color swatches against your skin tone. There are colors best for different skin tones..(winter, autumn, spring and summer) You can google it and do some reading on this.

Why do I look good in the mirror, but ugly in photos?

In the mirror, we see ourselves and slightly change how we look(like positions and muscles) to please ourselves, without realizing it. in pictures, we don't have a chance to do this, ending up what we really look like.

also, no one's face is perfectly symmetrical, and it's true: we do have a good side and bad side, that both look different. thats why one angle might look good but the other bad.
