Why Do Liberals Have The Same Political View As I Did When I Was 13

What's the difference between a liberal republican and a conservative democrat?

Okay so in my political science textbook there's these stats that have to do with ideology and political affiliation. It says that 15% of conservatives are democrats, and that 13% of liberals are republicans. I tried looking into this already, and the differences between the two are very vague. Could you help me out here?

Thanks for any help :)

What political party am I?

Like MOST people, who don't buy into the BS pre-packaged garbage ideologies that the left and right try to pawn off on the public, your views don't fit into cookie cutters of either side. The other comments here illustrate this nicely, with the right wingers calling you a libtard and whatnot.

The flat tax idea is right of center.
Abortion rights are supported by a supermajority now, so liberal to centrist there.
Same with religion in school - liberal to centrist.
Everyone but extreme libertarians think markets should be regulated. Just a matter of how much.
Socialized medicine is a liberal stance.
NO welfare is a pretty darn extreme right wing / libertarian stance.
Being an athiest doesn't have anything to do with this. Christopher HItchens was an athiest, yet also a conservative, for instance.
Unless you think military budget should be drastically cut, that's a pretty mainstream perspective.
I don't know what you mean by "equal tax on trade", nor your tax based on production.
And respect for gay rights is liberal to moderate, although very much a supermajority among younger people.

Put it all together, and you've got an interesting mix of moderate, liberal and libertarian views. If you want to simplefy it to a term, you could say "moderate liberaltarian".

There is no party for you really. Certainly not Obama, Santorum, Romney, Gingrich or Paul. Just a choice of lesser evils for you.

Have you always had the same political beliefs?

Have you always had the same political beliefs? For the most part, yes. My highest social/political value has always been individual liberty, and everything else stems from that. One of the reasons I love the works of Robert A. Heinlein and H. Beam Piper so much, is that when I was starting to develop my political vocabulary, they had a way of taking ideas that existed nebulously in my mind, and stating them clearly. The did not give me the ideas, but they gave me the words to express ideas I already had. Now, some of my positions have changed, but not the core belief. Rather, I reevaluated and realized some of the positions of my youth were in conflict with my core values.Drugs. I mostly despise drugs, as I have seen them ruin the lives of several people I care about. But I no longer believe that my personal distaste is sufficient cause to use the rod of the State to force that belief on others.Prison. I used to believe in a punitive model of justice. But when I stopped looking at criminals as people, and just looked at them as problems to be solved, the emotional impetus to punish went away. I realized that the best utilization of resources is to either rehabilitate or execute them. Ideally, the criminal would be rehabilitated and released back into society without prejudice. If that is simply impossible, due to the commission of certain heinous crimes, or persistent repeat offense, there is no point in storing that criminal in a box until death. There are a few other minor ones, but those are the two biggest changes.

Why do conservatives view CNN as a very liberal biased news source?

Because CNN is a very liberal biased news source (and I am no fan of Trump and watch CNN everyday...) In fact, I don’t think CNN would disagree that they are biased. I think it’s actually very obvious to everybody. What isn’t obvious is exactly why. Why is CNN so biased? The answer may surprise you. It has everything to do with Google —and ratings AND advertising sales. The days of the news just being watched on TV are long gone. People now get their news over the internet, usually after conducting a search. Further, each news source has a well defined market. Gone are the days of a news station being generalized. First, I’ll discuss Google…How a news station ranks in Google will determine over half of the eyeballs on a story and a substantial portion of their advertising revenue. After all, the internet is world wide. Cable TV is highly localized and with Google Adwords, advertising revenue is worldwide.Make Google happy, you will be happy.Google has adjusted their algorithm to favor liberal news sources and PUNISH conservative news sources. After all, Google is a very liberal company headquartered in one of the most liberal areas of the country: Mountain View, California. If you’ve ever been to Mountain View, Palo Alto, and/or the surrounding area, you know what I mean! Everything about how Google works has been intentionally and systemically built to lean liberal. By being so liberally biased, CNN has become #1 on Google. In fact, CNN even higher than BBC and other sources that are much less biased and have higher journalistic and ethical standards (BBC is tops in the industry.)If you don’t believe me, check out my search engine, 4Conservative.com, and see all the news out there you’re missing because Google shoved it to the bottom. You’ll see many of these news sources are actually not fake news and even conservative news sources can be critical of Trump (and often are…) 4Conservative.com rebalances the algorithm to level the playing field. You will also see news from CNN and other top liberal sources, but you won’t miss the top conservative sources.—Michael LevyI’m the founder of 4Conservative.com | The Conservative Search Engine, one of over 2000 4Search.com search engines that let you search by topic and interests. Introduce yourself politically. What influences your political views?

Please, don't harass or flame those with viewpoints that aren't yours. I will choose the answer that is the most well-thought out, regardless of political views.

1. Introduce yourself! How old you are, your gender, race, religion, occupation, etc. Are you in college? Do you have a degree? Do you have children? How long have you been at your place of employment?

2. Introduce yourself politically. Are you fiscally conservative but socially liberal? The other way around? Something else? What is a political cause you are passionate about? How do you feel about hot buttons today such as health care reform, equal rights for all citizens, illegal immigration, etc.

3. Who influences your views? Does your family share your ideals? WHY do you feel that your political standpoints are correct, verses the opposite standpoint?

4. Thank you so much =) I am honestly just very curious.

Why do so many liberals not want Trump as a President?

I am not what you would call a “liberal”. I do not want Trump to be my President. Why not?He is caustic, narcissistic, and insufferable. He takes advantage of bigotry as much as it suits him, and he denounces it as much as it suits him. Either way, his feelings about bigotry are more about what suits him than anything. He openly advocates things that are unconstitutional. His stated economic policy is idiotic. Regardless of what he may think, he cannot simultaneously cut taxes, increase military spending, and eliminate the entire national debt in eight years.Again, his stated economic policy is idiotic. Protectionism has been terrible for every country that has tried it. Like communism, it seems great as long as you do not think too hard about it.Even if he did not rape a 13-year-old girl as has been alleged, he certainly did hang out with a guy who was doing just that kind of thing on a regular basis (Jeff Epstein) and later joked about that man’s taste in “young” women while describing him in glowing terms. He is a classic lying politician. He has already reversed on several things that he promised during the election, and he has not even taken office yet.He is guilty of pretty much everything he has accused other political figures of.Isn’t all of this obvious?

Liberal vs Conservative?

Basically, conservatives try to be self-reliant, hard working, careful with their money. Conservatives are wary of big government, as our freedoms can be eliminated far easier by big government. Liberals favor government running everything---the bigger, the better. It is MY opinion liberals think Americans are SO stupid, we can't even manage a nickel, much less a dollar. Liberals want the GOVERNMENT to take care of the people's needs. It is my great fear that liberals would be delighted to surrender their freedom---in exchange for their needs being met. Conservatives believe in a small federal government, with MORE power going to the STATES. I know my comments are biased against liberals, but I want to KEEP the majority of what I earn. I don't want my hard-earned money going to a welfare slacker who makes babies for a living.

Is Generation X conservative, liberal, or socialist?

A 2017 Pew Research Center report entitled “A wider partisan and ideological gap between younger, older generations” shows that Gen-Xers are a little less liberal than Millennials and more liberal than Baby Boomers. How much of this is that the average population in a generation becomes more conservative age and what has to do with the evolution of society, I’m not sure. It does seem that Baby Boomers more become more conservative as they age.Gen-Xers are definitely not “socialist” in their political ideologies… nor are Millennials. Socialism is “an economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.” There’s a big difference between believing that all Americans have the inherent right to truly affordable access to health care and to a solid public school education vs. socialism.Statistically, Pew determined that approximately 21% of Gen-Xers (as of 2016) were classified as truly “liberal” in their ideological leanings while 23% were classified as truly conservative. The rest fell somewhere from moderate/conservative Democrats to very conservative Republicans, with about 13% having no significant leanings to the left or right. So, it depends on where you draw the line between liberal and conservative when making a generalization about Gen-X. The percentage of conservative to moderate Democrats is constant across generations at about 27%. The percentage of moderate to liberal Republicans is incrementally increasing with each new generation while the percentage of conservative Republicans decreases with generation (oldest to youngest). When conservative politicians bash “liberals,” they always paint a picture of liberals who are in the left-most part of the political spectrum. So, if that’s where you draw the line, then Gen-Xers are conservative. If you split by political party affiliations and “leanings,” there are more semi-liberals than semi-conservatives, with about 13% of eligible voters having either no leanings or claiming to be “independent” (no party affiliation registered).
