How do you convince someone that the "psychology of online social networks" is a completely legitimate scientific field?

I have actually done some research on this topic, and there have been many academic studies done on this topic that show positive results of participation in online social networks. Academic research can certainly be skewed, but too many of these studies show definitive positive results. So if someone were to ask me to prove the legitimacy of this as a scientific field, I would point them to the work documented in reliable scientific journals as evidence. I haven't studied it myself, but I do a lot of research to help understand the behavior patterns of my clients.

What are the importance of social psychology to marketing?.?

The study of consumers helps firms and organizations improve their marketing strategies by understanding issues such as how

* The psychology of how consumers think, feel, reason, and select between different alternatives (e.g., brands, products);
* The the psychology of how the consumer is influenced by his or her environment (e.g., culture, family, signs, media);
* The behavior of consumers while shopping or making other marketing decisions;
* Limitations in consumer knowledge or information processing abilities influence decisions and marketing outcome;
* How consumer motivation and decision strategies differ between products that differ in their level of importance or interest that they entail for the consumer; and
* How marketers can adapt and improve their marketing campaigns and marketing strategies to more effectively reach the consumer.

Understanding these issues helps us adapt our strategies by taking the consumer into consideration. For example, by understanding that a number of different messages compete for our potential customers’ attention, we learn that to be effective, advertisements must usually be repeated extensively. We also learn that consumers will sometimes be persuaded more by logical arguments, but at other times will be persuaded more by emotional or symbolic appeals. By understanding the consumer, we will be able to make a more informed decision as to which strategy to employ.

Why are people so loyal to a particular political party?

In psychology, it is called the consistency and commitment principle. It is unconscious aspect of human psychology that we feel a powerful need to be consistent with past choices. Effectively, once an individual makes a choice, they resist changing their minds even if that choice no longer has any utility for them.I use Pantene shampoo. My wife just happened to ask why I always buy Pantene and I realized that it was reflexive, something I don’t think about. That made me start thinking about it and I realized that I first started buying Pantene as an adolescent because my girlfriend was a big fan. Apparently her ‘sales pitch’ was effective enough to get me to make the decision to buy it. I liked it and just kept buying it…for 30 years.Most people make their political choices when they are young and for reasons that coincide with their economic situation and other life-style choices. My father-in-law, who turned 90 this year, came of age during the FDR administration. Now there is very little resemblance between the modern Democratic Party and what it was in the 1940s, but my father-in-law has consistently voted Democrat in every election since he eligible. He had three daughters who came of age during the Reagan years. They have all consistently voted Republican all of their lives.This also explains why a party (the Democrats) that has consistently favored an authoritarian approach to regulation of every aspect of American life, paradoxically embraces the concept of unregulated borders. They believe they can produce millions of loyal voters for a generation to come, when and if illegals are once again given amnesty. They are relying on in large measure, on the consistency and commitment principle.

What's the difference between phycologist & psychiatrist?

Okay, a psychologist is a person you talk things out with. This person has studied human behavior and its pathologies and gotten a Ph.D. doing it. However, this person cannot prescribe medicines because she or he is not an M.D. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and has M.D. after his or her name and CAN prescribe medicines. A psychiatrist sees patients. A psychologist is not required to (I don't think), except maybe in research studies. A psychiatrist might do research studies, but her main purpose is to treat people with mental disorders, including prescribing medicines.

A psychologist has not necessarily been to medical school, residency, and internship. A psychiatrist has done all this.

A licensed clinical social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, or nurse practitioner can all serve as therapists for a person with mental illness. They talk to you, help you sort your emotions and thoughts out, use things like talk therapy, cognitive therapy, and other therapies to help bring balance and focus to the mental health consumer.

As for reporting, not unless the person threatens harm to self or others. And as far as I'm concerned, the best way to treat suicidal thoughts, harm to self, or harm to others, is to prevent it with regular visits to a psychiatrist and whatever other health professionals are necessary.

In Louisville, KY, the police department has a crisis intervention unit whose purpose is to come and diffuse situations that a mental health consumer might have. They might talk this person out of killing himself, calm her down from a frenzied mania, talk down an escalated fight or threat of harm to someone else, or other way of diffusing a situation so that the mental health consumer can get help, and everyone is led to safety. It is a ground-breaking movement in my town.

If you are afraid of telling a psychiatrist or psychologist (or therapist) about suicidal thoughts, check your local area for a peer support group. In Louisville, we have an affiliate chapter of the DBSA--Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (www.DBSAlliance.org, www.dbsalouisville.org) and a branch of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness). In a peer support group, confidentiality is the key to the support group and must be respected by all. What is said there stays there. This really helps when it comes to finding someone to unburden yourself with.

How do I make someone my subaffiliate?

It depends on the particular subaffiliate program. Each affiliate program will have different instructions on how to refer your subaffiliates. For many, it’s your usual affiliate referral link. When someone registers through your link, they’re tied to your account as a subaffiliate and you earn a cut on their commissions (or get a bounty upon registration).As far as actually encouraging affiliates to sign up with your referral link, there are quite a few options.The people who are posed to earn the most on two-tier affiliate commissions are coaches and trainers who teach affiliate marketing. This group can encourage their students to sign up for their preferred affiliate programs and earn based on their success.This is also why providing resources and training to your subaffiliates is a great way to increase 2nd tier commissions. With most subaffiliate programs, you earn more when your subaffiliates earn more. So setting them up with the tools and resources to succeed behooves you.

Classification of parapsychology as science or pseudoscience?

Unfortunately, you have asked (probably without realizing it) a philosophical and not a science question. There is no experimentally verifiable or empirical observable definition of science. So, the definition of science is not a question that science can answer but is left to philosophers that tend to debate matters for centuries. Biology, Physics, Medicine, Psychology, all have their own definitions and explanations for their individual disciplines of science. This is equally true of Parapsychology with it's own official definition. In fact since there is only one professional organization for Parapsychology it is perhaps better defined than the other sciences that tend to have multiple professional organizations (with many specialities within them) speaking for their disciplines.
So, it depends of how you choose to define science.

What is not a matter of opinion is that the largest scientific organization in the world,
American Association for the Advancement of Science, admitted the Parapsychological Association as an affiliate in 1969. So, if Parapsychology is a science was answered in 1969. If it is not a science the AAAS has yet to explain what parapsychologist are engaging in and supporting.

There has always been and continues to be the question of parapsychology as a separate science or simply as subject matter for other sciences. William James for example believed that unusual experiences should be included in the study of psychology that he saw as encompassing all of human experience. Parapsychology has developed it's own techniques, methods, experiments, etc. which are usually more controlled than those of any of the social sciences. However, the novelty has caused some criticisms.

On the other hand investigators like Rupert Sheldrake which follows the standard rules of biology and Daryl Bem who follows the standard rules of psychology have conducted highly successful experiments that have been criticized for not following rules beyond that required in their disciplines (like parapsychology does).

Also, not a matter of opinion is that fact that most people researching and publishing professionally in parapsychology hold degrees (often doctorates) in a conventional field of science from an accredited university.
