Why Do People Hate Atheists

Why do people hate on atheists?

It is sad. I think it is a fear that stems from our belief system beings so completely different than theirs. At least with other religions they share the belief in god, dogma, religion, and the importance of these things. With atheists, we think that they have got it so completely wrong. And the fact that logic and reason supports our side of the argument has GOT to make them uncomfortable.

For those who doubt that atheists are hated, there have been several recent studies attesting to the fact. One study of America showed that atheists were the least trusted of any group of people, beating out muslims, blacks, and homosexuals. The study also found that atheists were the most likely group that parents ban from marrying their children. As homosexuals are becoming more and more accepted as people in America, it seems the next target for the majority to hate are atheists.

One quote that bests sums it up is b George Bush Sr, when he was running for election. He said "I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens or patriots. This is one nation under god."

Why do people hate atheists?

I'm a 20 year old girl and I'm an atheist. I live a really good life, I like to volunteer in my free time and raise money for charities. I'm nice to everyone. I really just can't stand rude people. I've been through hell and back in my life but I try to keep myself and the people around me happy.
I like helping people, just to be nice and helpful. Not for any other reason, I don't do nice things just because I can go to heaven when I die, because I don't believe in it. I don't believe in God. I don't believe in any religion.
Why is it that no matter how good a person is, if they don't believe in God, they're horrible and going to hell - a place they don't even believe in?

As an atheist I'm not capable of beliving in God, and I would much rather live a good happy life not worrying about what happens after I die rather than living my life in fear of God and worrying about going to heaven after I die.

Why do some people hate atheists?

I'm fairly certain most people don't hate atheists. In fact, aside from forums such as this, I'm fairly certain most people don't even think about atheists. But there is a subgroup of religious people who, I think, do hate atheists. Or at the very least, really, really, really dislike atheists. And even though I'm flitting close to stereotyping them, I have to say these are not especially thoughtful people. They represent a subset of the majority religion in the United States, but somehow seem to feel that they and their beliefs are under constant attack from outside forces. Atheists are one example of these forces. At least some of them believe that atheists are the agents of Satan and that their works, such as the books of Dennett, Dawkins, Harrris, and Hitchens, are inspired by Satan. (How else could they have become such best sellers, when they are wrong, wrong, wrong!?)They have repeatedly tried to bring their brand of belief into the public square, and to enact as much of it as possible into law. They want public schools to force pupils to pray, regardless of the preferences of the children or their parents. They want to post the rules of their religion in public places, especially courtrooms and classrooms, as words to live by. (A counterattack against the outside forces opposing them.)  These are the rules that begin, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." And they have been thwarted in this by atheists and atheist groups.(Those dreaded outside forces.)They don't understand science. They don't understand biological evolution. They have no knowledge of the physics of the universe. And what they have heard about these things makes no sense to them. But they keep hearing that the atheists say these things prove the Bible is wrong. Now, if I believed that my friends and I were under siege by agents of Satan, who were thwarting our every attempt to spread the good news of our belief, and were cooking up phony theories to disprove holy scripture, and were teaching this in the schools where our children are no longer allowed to pray, I'd hate them, too. I would.I don't believe that. Nor should they. But that's a matter for another discussion.

Do you hate atheists? Why?

I don't hate them, though I do find most of them to be very hypocritical and antagonistic. My boss at my last job was a very strict athiest. She had an extremely critical view of Christians and Christianity. I like to read. I read all kinds of things. I would often bring books into the break room, and read during lunch. I went through a religious phase where I tried to read through both the Koran and the Bible in a single year. I got through the Bible, and about halfway through the Koran before I lost interest. While I was reading the Koran, my boss had very little to say, but whenever she saw me reading the Bible, I caught a lot of static. She would joke with me and ask me if I thought the world was flat. She also brought me a copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales, and told me to read that. She said it was no different than the King James Bible. This is very dangerous talk, and my boss should have known better. I went to HR and caused her some grief, but it didn't really shut her up.That happened later after I started going back to school for my Engineering degree. My boss already had her Bachelors, and she was going after a Masters at the same time I was attending UGA. Somehow, we both ended up in an advanced Statistics class together. I happen to like Statistics, but my boss seemed to think I was a dumbass because I sometimes read the Bible. She told me on our first day of class that “this was going to be tough for me”, it wasn’t like my “fairy tales” .I ended up with an 88 in the class. She had a 72. I was working 60 hours a week and taking two classes. She was working 48, and only taking one. I was also married and trying to raise a child at the time. She was single and already had two four year degrees.I told her that she might need to read some of my “fairy tales” over the course of the next semester. Perhaps they might help her GPA.That shut her up.

Can I hate Atheists?

Atheisim is an absence of belief not a hatred of belief. Why would you go against your teachings to single out something to hate?

Madeline Murry O'Hare was a foul mouthed lady for sure but what she wanted was to not have religion shoved on her when she didn't believe. And she was murdered so I don't think she is involved in the atheist movement now. Funny thing though... she was murdered for money, not her belief.

Why do people on tumblr hate the amazing atheist?

Because atheist have no morals

Why do atheists and Jewish people hate God but love money?

Because this is written in their holy Talmud "book" my friend.

Thank you for sharing

Greetings

Why do strongly religious people hate atheists?

It seems to me that many people with strong religious beliefs are genuinely disgusted at the thought of someone not believing in a god. I am an atheist, and I was brought up that way. But I was also brought up to respect everyone's life choices...if someone tells me they're a Christian, that's cool with me. I always look past any differences and try to find common ground with others.

However, I have occasionally felt victimised by theists for the way I live my life...it seems slightly unfair?
