Why Do People Of Faith Generally Have Decent Shoes

Why do many people vote for facist leaders, even though they would be repressed and controlled as a result?

I recommend a book “Escape From Freedom” by Erich Fromm - It provides very sound & sensible reasons many people feel more comfortable in having their lives organised & controlled taking away the need for them to have to make a large majority of decisions, which causes a lot of personal anxiety - Akin to many long term prison inmates being released & feeling terrible insecurity in the often chaotic ‘outside world ’they intentionally reoffend so as to put back in confinement of prisons

Do people look down on a vegetarian who wears leather shoes?

Some could definitely. But it is not their business! There are many reasons why a vegetarian or vegan would keep their leather/wool/silk/down/fur goods. For example, I peronally only own a couple wool items and a down jacket even though I am vegan. Why should I throw them away? The good has already been purchased - the purchase is the important thing here. Since I already bought it, I might as well just use it. It won't make any difference if I stop using it, because I have already bought it, I have already given my money to that industry unfortunately. Moreover, throwing that stuff away would mean more waste and pollution, and I would have to spend more money on something else that has no animal product in it. It doesn’t make sense to me. I just use up everything non-vegan that I have, and when I throw them away I then buy something that's vegan.

Do Mormon missionaries take off their shoes when visiting people in their homes and should I call them elder?

It's common courtesy to remove your shoes when you enter someone's home (I always did when I was a missionary, anyway), but of course people don't always remember. If you'd like them to do so, simply ask them when they come to the door. They won't mind...but in all honesty, these are teenage boys. Unless they had very good mothers, they probably won't remember to do so. You'd better ask.

"Elder" is their title--it's an office in the priesthood and leadership of our church. I know the contrast between what people think it should mean and their actual ages tends to throw people off, but yes, that's what you should call them (it also means you don't have to remember their names).

If you want to feed them, go ahead. Again, they're teenage boys--they won't refuse food and will probably love you for it. They have to cook their own meals now, and I think it'd be safe to bet that they're living on instant noodles at the moment. Still, if you don't want to do so, then just offer them a glass of water. You don't need to do more than that to meet the demands of courtesy (though I'm impressed that you care enough to ask. Most don't).

And don't worry about the discussion. They just want to tell you a little more about what sets our faith apart from other Christian denominations, what we have to offer that others don't. Hear them out, ask questions, and if you're interested in more, tell them so. If you're not...well, you've learned a little more about those around you, and how can that be a bad thing? I sometimes wish people of other faiths would send people around like this, just so I can learn. I think it makes us all more compassionate and open.

Why do white people love to wear skateboarding shoes?

I am a white mom and my kids are 16 and 13. The only thing they wear are DC. I prefer that because they say they are comfortable and honestly they are a very durable, well made shoe. When I pay 80$$ for my kids shoes, I want them to last longer than 2 months. Skateboard shoes last about 7 months. They are a good deal.

Why do Amish people go barefoot?

As I live in a totally different part of the world I rarely get into contact with the Amish. So as a disclaimer, I don’t have experience from personal interaction. Still here are my thoughts.I found it rather bizarre when I saw a family (Amish according to my friend from Michigan) in Binder Park Zoo, in traditional clothes and … crocs, an example of industrial mass production which is generally rejected by most branches of the Amish (I learned there are numerous variants within the faith). So, generally they tend to wear things that they made themselves, or at least were made by someone locally within the Amish community: Some trade with the outside world is unavoidable but they tend to limit it. Making shoes is a lot of work (though good handmade shoes can last much longer than the typical mass-produced kind). It’s understandable that they only put them on when absolutely necessary. Making them in many different sizes for children growing up can bind a lot of resources. They also tend to reject what’s unnecessary to their life. Most striking is probably not the footwear question but that they typically have no radio, TV or internet (again, some branches may handle this differently). If you’re used to it, working barefoot works very well for most of the year in the areas where they live. As in any group of people, there may be some who particularly enjoy this aspect of being Amish. As the other answerer wrote, this especially seems to apply to children - and when growing up, it’s in fact much healthier to live mostly barefoot than to wear ill-fitting shoes; foot deformities, ingrown toenails, fungus rarely occur in mostly-barefoot populations. So it would be very understandable to me (even as one who doesn’t believe in God but who enjoys being in barefoot contact with nature). I’d love to hear an answer from one who is in more intensive contact with them (or even a quora reading amish if that exists).

Why is it on Quora, so many people are obsessed about "Restoring Faith In humanity"?

Uh, well I'm on Quora, and I'm not obsessed with that. A good portion of the time I tend to point out where someone is being a dullard and an asshat. As myself, I don't like those kind of people taking up my time. I don't have a lot of patience for intentional boneheads. If your conclusion from something accurate is different from mine, fine. If you won't even bother to speak from knowledge, it's annoying. If that implies that people are capable of more than they often exhibit, then I do feel that way. So I may encourage them to have faith in themselves - something I would encourage anybody to do. It is however like "respect" - you have to make an effort to be respected. Anyone can do this. Maybe most people are decent, I tend to think they are.I don't think the asshats have any problem thinking that they're wonderful. I wouldn't put my money on them though. I would put it on honest people with humility in a minute.

Pointe Shoes?

I know people with longer toes usually have to get shoes with a longer vamp because if not their toes dont always fit in all the way. Anyway, I would look online for a list of differnt companies and a description of their shoes. It will tell you if they are good for narrow and long toed dancers. I know I use ulanova I which are good for people with toes all the same length and have a low vamp but they made Ulanova IIs for people with long toes and they have a high vamp.

http://www.fuzi.net/products.htm
http://www.tutu.com/dwear_ptshbl.html for bloch shoes
these are all the main good brands I could think of. I left some of the other brands out like celia kirsch and gaynor mindens cause I know we only fitted new dancers or dancers with wide feet in those when I worked at a dance shop. Anyway, it might be good to call your local pointe shoe fitter also and they can give you a list of popular brands.

What are some good Bible verses to put on my basketball shoes?

Ecclesiastes 9 (Amplified Bible) 11 I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong, neither is bread to the wise nor riches to men of intelligence and understanding nor favor to men of skill; but time and chance happen to them all. Matthew 24 (Amplified Bible) 13But he who endures to the end will be saved. 2 Timothy 4 (Amplified Bible)
7I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith.
