Why Do People Tend To Look Down Upon People Whom Smoke Weed And Treat Them Badly

Why do people tend to look down on us stoners?

I don't always laugh. Usually i'm serious as all can be when i'm in the clouds, it's just things that are funny sober are 10x funnier blowed. And as for grades, I do aright - some Cs, a B and a couple Ds. Yes, I have a part time job, but i'm 15.

People that don't smoke weed, why do you look down on people that do smoke?

I just want to know why you think it's okay look down on people that smoke weed, saying were losers and don't do anything accept get high.
I've been smoking weed for about 2 years now, I'm a freshman, I'm in the marching band at my school, make A's and B's, I play the flute and I'm learning how to play the alto saxophone. I don't just sit around all day and smoke. So my question is why do you think your better? So I smoke weed who cares? It's harmless look it up, no it does not cause cancer in fact they let some cancer patients use it to ease there pain. Do you really think a doctor would prescribe medical marijuana to there patients if it was cancerous? I don't think so. It does not kill brain cells, it's been proven many many times that it doesn't. And it's not a gateway drug, that is the most ignorant statement ever. It's the fact that weed is illegal that exposes people to harder drugs, because when you go and buy it from a drug dealer they might offer REAL drugs and people get pressured to take it.

So yeah I just want to know. Thank You

Why do so many non-smokers hate people who smoke and find them repulsive?

I don't hate the smoker.  Just the smoke.  And smell.  Of everything they own and wear.  And while you excluded public smoking, the reality is they are part and parcel, which tends to affect non-smokers more negativeky than smokers realize.  Like most vices, we are barely aware and often don't want to admit that our vices could be affecting others because that would mean being critical of ourselves.   But they do.  Particularly smoking. Not showering is a great analogy.  If someone does not shower, they smell.  I have had to pull employees aside and bring up their bad grooming because it is affecting the team.  However, smokers, somehow, are not subject to this same standard.  It is just common courtesy to think of others and, frankly, disrespectful to not consider if you are creating a negative situation.I live in Berlin where there is manadatory smoking at age 14, apparently.  And many smokers here, in general, are completely disrespectful.  Again, smoking while walking down the street doesn't seem all that bad until you consider how bad it smells and how much it is actually harming non-smokers around you.I like to compare it to flatulence.  If we were standing at a bus stop outside and you started smoking near me, is it any better than me, maybe haven eaten a very spicy and bean-y burrito the night before, letting my flatulence rip through the bus stop?  I suspect you would chide me for being rude and disrespectful.  But at least flatulence is a natural process. So, in summary, smoking smells and is extremely unhealthy for the smoker and the person who has to be near the smoker.  If you can be aware of that and treat me with respect, I have no problem with smokers.  It is a hard standard to maintain, though, which is why I encourage you to quit smoking.  You will save thousands of dollars and make people around you much happier.Just don't trade smoking for not showering because we'll be right back where we started...

Why are drinking, smoking, and drugs looked down upon as though they are morally bad things to do in India?

Hi Srinivas, thanks for A2A. Do pardon any bluntness in my answer, but it may be a requisite in giving you the correct answer. India and USA are two vastly different countries with contrasting socio-ethnic cultures. So please get the comparisons right. It’s not right to assess our society with what’s happening in another nation, no matter where they are, what their culture is.Having said that it’s commonly understood, that there does exist a dual yardstick (and the hypocrisy it emanates ) in the Indian society. If one is mature enough to marry at 18, one is mature enough to indulge in smoking and drinking. Cigarette prices are going up as it is. And despite health warnings, smokers exist. So hence, it’s nothing but hypocrisy that leads to ostracising views.NOTE: I DO NOT ENCOURAGE ANYONE TO TAKE UP SMOKING/DRINKING.While I’m with you on the first 2 points, I will definitely support and defend any person society that looks down on drugs as though they are morally bad. Drugs are morally bad.Srinivas, are you serious when you are clubbing drugs with cigarettes and alcohol? I would request you and any others who share similar sentiments to frame their questions more responsibly. Drugs is/are not just mild ones like marijuana and derivatives. Drugs is/are also = Cocaine, LSD, and others highly lethal intoxicants and hallucinogens. Are you seriously questioning a/any person or society for looking down on such horror? You may as well have added “terrorism” to your question. My humble appeal to all, especially to the youth - Say NO to Drugs.Cigarettes/Alcohol are morally bad? Debateable.Drugs are morally bad? YES. No 2 ways about that. Drugs were, are and will always remain morally bad.

Why do you look down on smokers?

It seems that more in more people heavily look down on smokers. People of all ages seem to have a lot of disgust towards smoking in general but also to others who smoke as well. Back in the mid-90s and before, it was common for many people to smoke even though there was awareness about the dangers of smoking. In Europe, many people smoke so it doesn't seem like such a big deal.

At my college, people smoke but I have noticed that they are very discreet about it. They hide out in the corners outside the library (the designated smoking area) for a quick puff. And when I occasionally smoke my friends give me dirty looks and even call me out on it. Others who can smell it on me hours after I have one have also shown a great deal of disgust towards the habit.

My biggest concern is that more people will have such an aversion to smokers that it could even cost a person his or her job and could damage their reputation. Especially, if people start to gossip about it. They might associate smoking with people who lack intelligence or live in poor areas of the country which isn't true. Funny how things change, there was a time where it was odd if one did not take up the habit.

Why do people hate weed so much?

I smoke weed occasionally to treat depression and frankly its helped a lot. I'm not your typical pothead as I do good in school, work out a lot, and play guitar and sing in a band.

It seems like everybody comes down on me for it and my parents when they caught me said they would rather have me drinking alcohol which is totally ridiculous. I like to drink beers every now and then but I don't like to get drunk because and it can be worse than weed. You do stupid things and wake up with a wicked bad headache. With weed you chill with friends, watch movies, listen to music, and eat and have a good time.

Also my best friend comes down on me worse than my parents. He says weed will turn you into a vegetable. If you smoke too much you might be out of it but it won't turn you into a vegetbal. How come people hate weed so much?

Why does society look down upon smoking marijuana?

Society looks down on marijuana smokers because of how they have historically been portrayed. Marijuana has been demonized for the last 80 years and people who were saying this stuff can't just come out and say they were wrong that's too hard for people to do. With all the misinformation out there and with the system of prohibition that we have you only see the most dysfunctional users of drugs leading you to believe that everyone who uses those drugs are just as dysfunctional. You don't see or realize that that person at your job who is always on time, never misses work, knows everything about their job and does it well smokes weed every night when they go home. You don't get to see that honor student smoke with their closest friends on the weekends. Also because it's illegal and so many people foolishly take what is right and wrong from what is legal and illegal. Just because alcohol is legal does that mean that it's right or a good thing to drink it with all the problems it causes for our society (violence, accidents, date rape, death)? Was it right or a good thing to own slaves because it was legal?

Why is smoking weed looked at differently then drinking alcohol?

Many of the people who answered this question misinterpreted. I understand what you are saying. While drinking is not looked down upon as much as weed, people who drink alone tend to do it to self diagnose. This means that if they feel depressed or try to forget their worries, they will get drunk by themselves. To society, this seems odd and not healthy. However, for those who accept weed in society, it is better to smoke alone than drink alone because being drunk has different effects as drinking does. When you are high, everything feels better, tastes better, and you don't need to do as much to feel entertained. When somebody gets high, they normally are either bored or just want to get the sensation of the high. However, when somebody drinks, they want to forget about their worries and being drunk is not a happy feeling as it is for a high. With being high, you feel good about life and everything for the most part. However, people who drink try to erase their worries when they are alone, however it is not a good way to medicate yourself for depression. That is why it is looked down upon. Hope that makes sense hahah.
