Why Do Republicans Think They Can Impose Their Own Views On Morality On Everyone

Why are so many members of the Republican Party opposed to abortion?

It's the wrong question. If Republicans were pro life, they would be in favor of abolishing the death penalty. If they were pro life, they would be in favor of universal health care. They would be in favor of frank, accurate sex education for children before they reach puberty. They would be in favor of making inexpensive contraception available for everyone. They would be in favor of strong and strictly-enforced environmental protection laws. They would be in favor of strong and strictly-enforced workplace health and safety regulations. They would be in favor of strong and immediate action on global warming. They would be in favor of significantly increasing the minimum wage. They would be in favor of generous family leave regulations. They would be in favor of strict gun control. All of these things would save lives, increase lifespans, improve health, decreases pain and suffering or generally improve the quality of life. All of these things are pro life, but Republicans almost universally oppose all of them. They are not pro life, they are anti abortion, so the right question is why do so many Republicans want to ban abortion. There are several reasons. Some Republicans have genuine religious objections to abortion, and they want to force everyone to obey their religious beliefs. Some politicians probably have no real feelings for or against abortion, but they are afraid that if they don't loudly oppose abortion, they will lose in primary elections to someone who does. Some people believe that pregnancy is God's way of punishing women for having sex, and thus abortion thwarts God's will. Some have primitive patriarchal beliefs that men should control women's bodies, and allowing women terminate a pregnancy thwarts their control. The term "pro life" is propaganda; after all, if you're in favor of life, anyone who opposes you must be against life.

Why do vegans feel the need to impose their ideology on everyone?

It goes both ways. I've been a vegetarian my whole life and I've been accosted on many occasions by meat eaters who think I'm going to die from protein deficiency or lack of B12 or iron. As a child I had a preschool teacher who deliberately tricked me into eating a ham sandwich because she thought I was being forced into a deadly lifestyle choice. Every vegetarian or vegan rolls their eyes when they get the shocked question "Where do you get your protein from???" I've stopped even trying to answer this question rationally now since it is so tiring. I now just say "from your mom." It doesn't even make sense but it shuts them up as they try to figure out whether I'm complimenting their mother's cooking or insulting her propriety. The short version is that everyone is very emotionally attached to their own eating style and there will always be some people who don't understand boundaries. Most vegans (even activists) are very respectful of others' choices and know that being a jerk is not going to win anyone over. Unfortunately there will always be a few people who are socially inept and will try to be evangelists. If the only conversations you have with people about veganism are a result of these attempts then you'll get a very skewed perspective of vegans. I'd be willing to bet that you know many other people who are vegetarians or vegans who have never even mentioned it because they don't find it relevant.Edited to add this cartoon that I saw and found relevant to the conversation:

If the Republicans have the majority, why are they blaming the Democrats concerning Kavanaugh’s confirmation, when they could have voted him in a month ago?

All republicans have ever done is to blame democrats for the incompetence of the REPUBLICAN party… they vowed to obstruct everything Obama wanted…they blocked not only his SCOTUS pick but HUNDREDS of lower court appiontments… but NOW they are blaming democrats of obstruction. How many republicans have been INDICTED for crimes since trump??? LITERALLY DOZENS!Yet what is their message…”DEMOCRATS are criminals”…Whats the 1st thing republicans did after trump stole the presidency? Eliminate the OFFICE OF ETHICS OVERSIGHT.and what are they saying about democrats??? “the most unethical display of …yada yada yada….”They accuse democrats of not following due process and assuming guilt until proven innocent while at the same time almost in the same breath at the rallies they are screaming LICK HER UP about Hillary Clinton( and now other women,) who is the most investigated and exonerated politician in modern history… yet what do they say about Kavanagh? that he is the most investigated person in history …give me a break!! He only had 6 investigations that were routine background checks. Hillary had 7 just for Bengazi and the last one the Republicans admitted they did it just for political purposes to discredit her before the election.Right now for this election the republicans are screaming “voter fraud voter fraud voter fraud !!”…but what's happening? The voter fraud is on the Republican side with voter suppression. Right now there are laws on the books called “exact match” laws. This means that if some moron clerk misspells your name or Incorrectly enters data you just LOST your voting right. Through no fault of your own and possibly because somebody was being malicious… because we know now that non whites are the main target of these laws… through no fault of their own they now lost their voting rights …and aren't even told that something was wrong so they can fix it in time …so yes, in effect they lost their right to vote and they have to go to court to fix it…but by then it's too late isn't it ? the votes are alredy cast… this is another thing that we have to fix that the republicans are doing.. Right now there's a republican guy in Georgia (Kemp) who's in charge of the very election hes running in…. Surprise, surprise surprise! 53,000 voters in Georgia have been pulled off the polls because of this exact match law and just what they are all registered as?Hint: not Republican

Why are Conservatives obsessed with family values, morality and work ethic?

Why do they want to force morals and manners on to children?

Why do they want to force women to be mothers?

Why do they to force men into taking responsibilities for their actions?

Why are they obsessed with teenagers (esp boys) getting jobs at 13/14?

Why do they take their children to church?

Why are they obsessed with families having breakfast, lunch and dinner together?

Why are they so opposed to divorce and abortion?

Why are they more likely to invite elderly parents to stay with them, Liberals put their parents in retirement homes.

Why are they obsessed with social grace? They force their children to dress conservatively and don't let their daughters wear make up or short skirts, they don't let their sons sag their pants.

Righties HATE welfare, how is someone living on welfare and spanding their days smoking pot harming you? It is their life!

Forcing morality on others?

the shifting sands of preference.

I'm agnostic so I admit, my values are nothing more than "my" preferences. And if I want others to live by them I am forcing "my" version of morality on them. When it comes to forcing others to live by my morals I recognize that what I'm doing is no different than what the fundies do.

You argue that rational consensus is a sufficient basis for objective morality. But you would have to first prove that nihilism is false before you can make that claim.

So to recap:
There's no obective morality written upon the universe
Rational people may hold opposing rationale worldviews with regard to morality
Therefore, absent god, there is no objective morality
Therefore you like a society where a version of morality that you argree with is forced upon everyone even though no such view of moral obligations exist in objective reality
Hence; you are no different than the fundies with respect to forcing morality on others.

Is it possible that all politicians are trying to disarm us and republicans are just playing the good guy role to throw us off?

No. It’s not possible that each and every politician is trying to disarm the US population. Many, perhaps most, but not all. There are too many of them, from too large a country, to all agree.
