Why Do Some People Think Pot Will Eventually Be Legalized

Why do people want to legalize Marijuana?

hahahahahaha so its ok the cigarettes are legal and not weed? and its a plant... why should the government say you cant smoke a plant but its ok that cigs are laced with over 1000 chemicals and weed is all natural. and your comment about the cartels.. well have you ever taken a drink? well back in the 1920s the government made alcohol illegal and it lead to gang violence and what not. that is exactly what I see today with weed. and iv smoked a lot of weed and never tried other drugs so that's not true about that gateway bs. GET EDUCATED YOU SMALL MINDED INDIVIDUAL. the government lies stop being a sheep and listening to the media. look at Willie Nelson, he's how old and been smoking weed for ever and he's still healthy and alive. same with the actors from Cheetch & Chong. so stick all that bullcrap up your ignorant *** and kick rocks stop hating and worry about your own life and don't worry about us stress free, happy weed smokers. oh and incase you think im just some pot head, im a college student getting my bachelors in construction engineering who takes my school very seriously. and weed just makes things better lol you need to try it and see if it doesn't calm your *** down!

Why are some people so adamant about legalizing weed?

Alcohol related crime does exist... but it is legal because we don't go killing people who drink (the real reason prohibition failed? Police indifference to the new law.)

Now we want MORE people being stupid (and just FYI, only a week ago some kid was talking about being arrested for going out to the canyons to get really high... and then was preparing to DRIVE back when a state trooper realized he was stoned)

Also, I hate the claim that legalizing pot yields tax money. We cannot even stop the illegal pot growing (due to unconstitutional laws that prohibit police officers from catching criminals) that exists today. When we legalize it, it'll just become BIGGER business.

People quit weed with no more difficulty than quitting tobacco or alcohol.
Two of the most addictive (legal) substances known to mankind.

Why is weed actully illegal?

Well most people who smoke weed combine it with tobacco, so in essence they are affected both physically and mentally. Marijuana and hash are known to contribute to mental health issues such as schizophrenia. This is becoming more and more common in the age group 16-24, and it is often found that what people consider to just be social smoking of weed, they are often smoking much more than they realise and it can cause severe mental health issues such as paranoid schizophrenia (particularly if a person has a predisposition to mental health problems). x

Will the United States ever legalize marijuana?

The first state will fully decriminalize marijuana within 5 years. Denver already legalized possession of 2 ounces, but the police still enforce state law prohibiting it. It seems likely that Colorado will be the first state to actually legalize it fully. It will be extremely limited at first but will eventually be merged with the medical marijuana community and dispensaries will grow more prevalent, but heavily regulated and taxed. But with the large surplus of Marijuana growing coming as a result, product would actually reduce in price.Personally, I would have to say it would be a good thing. The sheer amount of people going to jail for mere possession of marijuana is a huge injustice that would be corrected. Mexican drug cartels that kills thousands of people per year would lose their cash crop with the legalization of marijuana as cheaper and far more potent strands would exist inside the United States. I also believe once responsibility is taught rather than scare tactics, teenagers will be less likely to abuse drugs.

Why doesn't the federal government legalize marijuana?

what is the purpose of the federal government making a plant of nature marijuana illegal? Some people say its because its a drug, well actually it does more good than harm if you know about it or do your research and the government makes cigarettes, alcohol, energy drinks, fast food, etc. legal which is many times more harmful than marijuana. it medicates people in so many ways and is a very helpful plant overall, why would the government rather us takes harmful medications such as pills instead of marijuana? if you could provide a reasonable answer to this question, it would be appreciated.

How long until marijuana is legalized nationally?

Who knows? 5 years? 10 years? This is the wrong question. The correct question is “What am I doing to speed up marijuana legalization in my area?”Seriously. Now, to be clear… I recognize that Newton’s First Law really kicks in when you are baked…. a body in motion tends to stay in motion, a body at rest tends to stay at rest. So, once you hit the couch, that’s it. But… once you get up and get going, you keep going. You know the effect. So motivation to get up, write letters, do research, and promote information kinda eats away at the smoking time… which is the opposite of what you wanted in the first place. You began the question essentially seeking to increase your smoking time. And the quality of what you smoke. And reduce the price. And not get arrested for it.Colorado and Washington are proving that the states can make a BUTTLOAD of money off legal, recreational use pot. And, they are slowly proving that there isn’t an increase in crime. The statistics on that one are slower in coming in, but as of yet there are no correlations that can be drawn that say that making it legal made people go out and do more crimes in order to get it.Legalization has made it less expensive. Legalization has introduced quality control, and variety. Legalization has made consumption easier.I don’t smoke a pipe or a bong anymore. I don’t smoke at all. I quit smoking everything and switched to vaping. I can buy my pot in a wax form. I made my own vaping appliance that allows me to vape my cannabis wax. It costs me less AND lasts longer than the same money spent on bud would cost me. And I would still be buying a quarter if it wasn’t legal. Still coughing up a lung. How long it takes to spread, depends more on how loud the public asks for it. The public voted it in here in Washington and in Colorado. That means that every 4 years you get to vote on it again. If it isn’t on the ballot, find out what you need to do to PUT it on the ballot. Join http://norml.org/ and lend a hand.

Do you think marijuana will become fully legal in all states? If so, when?

Yes, I think that’s inevitable.Drug prohibition in the United States is a pragmatic failure in terms of its stated goals.[1] In light of the fact that it’s unethical[2] and doesn’t work, the viability of prohibition is dependent on a citizenry that’s indoctrinated by propaganda. Appeal to fear is, after all, a powerful method for motivating people to act irrationally. The younger generation of Americans, perhaps due to the internet and the rise of social media, appears less susceptible to indoctrination by state propaganda than earlier ones. This seems to be borne out in polling, which shows a clear trend toward ending prohibition:[3]Among the respondents to that Gallup poll, fully 78 percent of those aged 18-34 were in support of legalization.[4] So as the younger generation becomes a more dominant voting bloc it seems likely that prohibition will end.In 2012, I predicted that Mitt Romney would be the last major party presidential nominee to voice opposition to same-sex marriage; that anti-gay bigotry was no longer a nationally viable political position to have.I suspect we’re at about the same place with marijuana today.Footnotes[1] War on drugs - Wikipedia[2] Report: Nixon's war on drugs targeted black people[3] Illegal Drugs[4] Two in Three Americans Now Support Legalizing Marijuana

Why do people (who have never tried pot) judge potheads?

Because that's what people do, they judge everything around them. That's what brains are for - judgement.I should also point out that simply labeling people as "potheads" involves a certain amount of judgement. But to get more specific to the core of the question, if you take a group of people who might be considered stereotypical "potheads", isn't there rather a lot for people to get judgemental about? We're talking a stereotype here, but look at the stereotype.- A person who spends an inordinate amount of their time inebriated,- who routinely breaks the law to do so,- who is typically portrayed as an underachiever,- who typically seems to have a unique and/or impaired way of thinking as a result of drug use,- who appears to achieve nothing of any worth to anyone, and,- who unlike many drug users are not so much addicted as they are users by choice, free to behave otherwise if they wished.Duuuuuude. Sorry to harsh your buzz, but maybe people passing negative judgement isn't so surprising? That stereotype didn't come from some anti drug government propaganda (which actually laughably tried to portray pot smokers as out of control, violent psychopaths). The lasting stereotype of a pothead was formed by the amused observations of pot smokers themselves. So you end up with archetypes like Cheech and Chong, Wayne and Garth, surfer dudes, etc. A stereotype, sure, but is it really so far off from the truth? I'm an artist, I have a fair number of (much-loved) stoner friends, who pretty much fit the stereotypes and float through their smoky lives as you might expect.Hey, I'm fine with someone deciding to live their life as a pothead. It's their life. But I'm not going to get outraged when others find that choice distasteful, nor do I think they have to engage in an activity before they form or express an opinion of it. I just take that fact into account when judging THEM. Like I said, judging is what people do.

Is marijuana legal in China and why or why not?

Cannabis, or 大麻 (literally “big poison”) is illegal in China.Marijuana does make its way into China, usually in the form of hash. The Lebanese embassy in Beijing was partially funded by hash brought in via diplomatic pouches through the early 2000s. At the time, you could get it from a hotel room just down the street from the embassy.Chinese police will generally ignore foreigners smoking pot or hash. However, there is no tolerance if you are smoking with a local Chinese person. You will be seen as polluting or instigating locals to partake. You will be arrested, and probably have your visa revoked.Dealing drugs in China is generally punishable by death. Get caught with 500 grams of any illegal drug, and expect to see the firing squad.
