Sunni and shia are NOT like Methodists and Presbyterians, or even like Catholics & Protestants. Although both sects hold to the ideology of "jihad", there are significant differences in how they apply it. Sunnism is aggressive and imperialistic; most of the territory now occupied by islam was originally conquered by sunni jihads. Shiism on the other hand is defensive and reactive. Violently so to be sure, but still they have seldom been guilty of aggression against nonmuslims. As you scan over the latest abominations, be aware that virtually every one of these acts of mayhem was committed by sunni jihadists. Reminds me of how the Catholic Church treated Protestant as a threat because it diminished their spiritual authority; the only difference is the Catholic Church didn’t have the Gospels reenforcing it, unlike the Koran. it premits to even kill own muslims in one verse“O Prophet! make war on the infidels and hypocrites, and deal rigorously with them. Hell shall be their abode! and wretched the passage to it!” Surah 66:2
How should the Shiite Muslims and the Sunni Muslims get over their differences and get along?
That's a very good question. Educated aware religious Muslims usually don't see School of Thought as a barrier to cordiality, friendship and fraternity. I personally don't see it as a barrier.The same can unfortunately not be said of poorly educated / brainwashed individuals who suffer from what I call ignorance of the third degree: "they don't know but think they know and don't know that they don't know" With this type before you know it they will be recruited by gangs to blow themselves up in some suicide bombing mission or carry out target killings of innocent people they see as a bunch of 'heretics' deserving to be tortured and killed.The way forward is education and condemnation by clerics and their followers of criminal behaviour. Muslims need to re-learn the ABC of Islam in order to benefit from the essence of its lofty teachings :1.All lives are sacred so respect them2.Killing an innocent person is like killing all of humanity3.Respect yourself (don't oppress your own soul with excessive/major sins )4.Respect others (your rights stop where theirs begin)5.Respect the environment (it was given to you as a trust, take care of the trust) etc.I would put Shahadah as the central pillar around which would be the ABC principles for re-education. Shahadah does not require acknowledgement of X or Y as Caliph, therefore professing it is sufficient to be a Muslim.The closing principle to the ABC lesson could be that differences between the two Schools should cordially be discussed using mutual references, otherwise leave The Master of The Day of Reckoning to judge. What are moderate Sunni sects in order?
First you have to understand the difference between moderate, extremist and a radical extremist. The mind set in which a person thinks that his fellow muslim has certain beliefs or it perform certain acts that takes him out of Muslim faith is called extremism. But having an extreme view does not mean necessarily a suicide bomber or a killer. Categorically speaking all the Sunni sects have these same views towards each other and towards Shia as well, except the Sufis and Barelvis in India and Pakistan.From all of the Sunni sects we can safely say that most radical extremist of these groups are from Wahabi/ salafis and ahl e hadeeth who all are a sub sect of Hanbali. These groups follow teachings of people like Ibne Wahab, Ibn e Taimiyyah, Ibn e Qayyim and Ibn e Jozi. Who all have rulings that shias, sufis, ahl e biddah and non muslims all can be killed and their property and lives are Halal for them.

Revenge is a word which has hatred in itself and being a Muslim myself I have read a quite few incidents where our Prophet His Highness Hazart Muhammad (S.A.W) has taught us how revenge can be taken without reacting ,by responding.Let me quote one such incident which is common with all sects. The incident starts where our Prophet was on his way to propogate Islam and a lady who was a non believer threw rubbish on him.What did Prophet do? Did he throw the same rubbish on that lady instead he cleaned himself and continued walking.This repeated every day .One fine day while our Prophet was walking down the same path ,he didn't find the lady so he inquired about her.He came to know she was sick instead of laughing on her karma (read:reacting)he went forward ,took some fruits and went to meet this lady who was sick.What happened next ,she accepted Islam because of the character our Prophet had.Now coming down to your questions,what is the motto behind the above explaination.Revenge cant be taken by killing someone,or buring their mosques.If done ,we ourselves are destroying the aim of Islam-brother hood and peace.Revenge of any oppression and killing shall be taken by Imam Mehdi(a.s) after his reappearance-(“Revenge is a dish best served cold).We can develop our abilities of responding and our character because the an eye of an eye makes the whole world blind.Peace.
