Why Does My Chicken Always Eat My Food

What food do chickens eat?

If you’re wondering what should they eat, the answer is chicken feed formulated for the chicken’s intended purpose (eggs or meat). Often with hens they should also eat a calcium supplement. But what they do eat in reality is: almost anything. (Disclaimer: a lot if not most of these things are NOT something to feed chickens; they’re things that I have specifically seen chickens eat.) They will eat grass, other greens/leaves/veggies/fruits, pine needles, bugs, cracked corn, bread with a preference for white over brown, doughnuts, cakes, rolls, cereal including Lucky Charms where they go for the marshmallows first, yogurt, cheese, dog food, eggs and eggshells, hay or straw, styrofoam, bandaids, and small pieces of cardboard. They will sample most any liquid and attempt to eat jewelry, buttons, loose threads, and beads on clothing. They will kill and attempt to eat mice and smaller toads. My cousin’s family had a chicken who ate a snake, don’t ask me how. Some do seem to have preferences and there are things that they don’t eat. I have a hen who really likes apples and she even likes certain types more than others; she also likes juicy fruits in general and tends to sip from fruit between pecking at it. I had another one who would eat strawberries except when she was hormonal from trying to raise baby chicks, then she would scream at the strawberry. Most of them know better than to eat really brightly colored things, as it is a rule of nature that brightly colored things are often poisonous. My chickens are freaks because they don’t like earthworms. They barely peck at them, but most people’s birds like them apparently. Chickens also turn down ants, mint, oak leaves, acorns, and spiders. They will not eat something in poop or with poop on it. (As babies, they will peck at poop and discover it tastes bad.) In wintertime some prefer eating snow to drinking water. And if you offered it to them in small pieces, they would probably eat chicken, too.

Why does my dog always try to eat my food?

You need to train him. Tell him no and push him down. Maybe even give him a toy to play with so he knows he should not be disturbing you while you are eating. DON'T feed him from the table EVER or else he will expect it all the time and this behavior will continue and be even harder to correct.

Why does my cat nearly always throw up wet canned food, but eats dry food perfectly fine?

Its called Scarf n Barf. My cat has it. The best answers are already given you here, cut his food down into small bites, but I’ll add one small but really important thing. My cat always ate dry food, he was weird as he disliked wet food and we had no idea there was any good reason to keep him hungry til he ate the wet food. We’d given him a good, high quality, dry kibble and assumed he was OK.Now he’s got an inflamed pancreas from the dry food. It’s higher in carbs and fat and lower in water content than wet food and apparently carbs and fat can contribute to inflammation of the pancreas in cats and if untreated can eventually cause a painful death. Here’s a link to more information on it Pancreatitis in Cats - Important Info & Diet Help | Two Crazy Cat LadiesIt’s worth it to take the time to get him to eat the wet foods. So far the big fuzzball has cost me close to half a grand on lab work alone because of this.

Why do people eat bread with their chicken?

It's not just blacks, People from the South generally eat bread with every meal, and use it as a pusher to load their forks with food. It's just a regional thing.

I once served a 7 course Chinese meal to relatives, some of whom came from Southern states. Chinese generally don't serve bread, it's rice and noodles, and occasionally wontons or pancakes, but no bread.

One of my aunts asked me in the middle of the meal, "Honey, ain't ya got no bread?"

Why does my tummy always looks bloated and swollen?

I am only 115 pounds and 5'3" tall, and I am like you from time to time. I wake up in the morning with a relatively flat stomach, but when I eat my belly grows. The main reason is the accumulation of gas and sometimes constipation. Some people have lactose intolerance, which also gives them a bloated feeling. Do you have food allergies? I used to, and that caused me to be bloated as well. If you drink a lot of carbonated drinks, you may get gassy, too.

If this is an occasional problem, it might be what you are eating. You might try taking Metamucil with water to help alleviate gas and constipation. When I get to be like you describe, I do that.

If the problem persists, you may consider talking with a doctor about it.

One thing I have done to reduce my stomach is leg raises. I do about 60 leg raises every other day. Not all at once. I alternate 30 raises with weight lifting. It has helped me enormously. I have also found that eating a lot of high fiber foods has helped me with the bloating.

Here is a link from WebMD that describes our problem.

Can I feed my chickens leftover high quality dog food as a treat?

It's either that or throw the dog food out. I'm not sure if there is anything in there that would harm them, and they'd still have their regular laying feed.

Why does my stomach get upset after eating Indian food?

Typically homemade Indian food may not be as deadly on the digestive system as food in restaurants. I presume you have your problem because you have been eating out once too often. You would have noticed the emphasis on eating curd with an Indian meal in the form of plain yoghurt or buttermilk - sweet or salted, raitas of pineapple/boondi or dumplings (pakori or dahi wada) in yoghurt sauce. There is a reason for this. Yoghurt contains good gut bacteria which aids digestion and soothes the irritation the spices in the food cause. You should take care to have some non-spicy form of yoghurt (dahi) with an Indian meal (north/east/west/south). One more thing Indians do after a meal is to eat some digestive like Aniseed (sonf) or betel nut (supari) or betel leaf (paan). This helps digestion, too. So that is one more thing you could do to settle your stomach.Of course, the best thing to do would be to eat sensibly and order food after checking with the waiter and having less spicy things on the menu. And, don't forget the yoghurt, paan and, if all else fails, a sachet of good old Eno in a glass of water!
