Why Does My Sims 2 Custom Content Get Replaced With Base Game Items

How do i remove custom content on the Sims 2?

The correct location is (My) Documents\EA Games\The Sims 2\Downloads.

Grab the Downloads folder, cut and paste it to a different location on your computer, like your desktop.

Start the game again. If your problem goes away, it was in your custom content. You can try a couple things to get rid of just the one or two items causing the crash.

Option #1 is to use the Sims Wardrobe hack conflict check tool found here: http://www.simwardrobe.com/

Option #2 is to use the Clean Installer. Run it against your Downloads folder and it should show you all your hacks and allow you to view objects and delete them. Find the Clean installer here: http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/

Option #3 is to add your Downloads folder back 1/2 at a time. Start by putting 1/2 back and starting the game. if no problems, put half of what remains back and start it again. Do this until you encounter a problem. Then of the portion you last put back, sift through that by halves and continue the process until you narrow down the faulty item(s).

If you recently installed a stuff or expansion pack, or custom content, make sure that all your custom stuff has the most updated version compatible with the expansion or stuff packs you have.

Custom content objects flashing blue in The Sims 2?

BE SURE there is a check in the box that says "Enable Custom Content". If you checked this box during installation then close the game and restart it. This fixes the flashing blue problem for *most* people.

I'd just like to add that once you purchase a new expansion pack or stuff pack, you should always first back up your game as it says in the manual. This is because installing a new pack will sometimes corrupt your user files. I hope this hasn't happened to you!
The following types of custom files are always safe for new expansions as you have discovered:
All makeup and facial texturing recolours - eyeshadow, eyeliner, blush, lipstick, and full-face makeup
All facial hair - eyebrows, stubble, and non-3d beards.
All genetics - eyes and skintones
All Body Shop recolours of Maxis meshes - clothing and accessories
Walls, floors, and ground cover

Anything else should be removed until you can test it with your new expansion or stuff pack.

How do you install custom content for Sims 3?

You can do it through the downloads folder or through the mods folder. The downloads folder will hold sims 3 packs and you can install the content through the launcher. For installing packages, here is a good website to learn how to do it and what to download: http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?...

How much hard disk space does The Sims 3 take up when all of its expansion and stuff packs are installed?

I have all expansion and stuff packs installed as well as some store and custom content and my game is at 32.14GB not including the documents (mods and saves and installed worlds et cetera) which is another 19.72GB. Plus I have to keep backups of my data (physical discs are in storage) and mods incase I need to reinstall because I hacked something badly which is a 109.66GB folder on top of that. Thats 161.52GB total for sims 3 at minimum for me, minimum because I occasionally keep multiple copies and or backups of things like documents or just packages folder to switch out quickly when testing different things.Going hardcore completionist in this game is not for someone unable to go hardcore on their PC specs. I have a 3.2GHz 8-core Intel tower with 32GB RAM, GTX 780, and 4 HDDs one being a 1.5TB HDD just for Games. My main is a 512GB SSD so there's no room. Then I have a 2.5TB Time Machine drive and a 3TB additional documents drive, on which I keep my virtual machines too. I use a custom pc built out of a 2008 Mac Pro with El Capitan as my primary OS so I have a 1TB virtual Windows XP machine on that 3TB which I run simultaneously on a virtual monitor (ctrl+arrows to switch between virtual monitors); although when I can afford a second 4K I’ll run it on a second monitor so I can see both screens at the same time; and Android and other virtual machines and other junk.

How do I install custom content to Sims 2 Double Deluxe?

First and most importantly make sure you download this file: it is called "CEP" - Color Enable Package v. 7.0 and you can find it at http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=92541
This file is an EXE file and all you need to to is download it and double click on it to install.

Next, find the file you want to add to your game. READ the info on it. Look to see if it requires a MESH file that is not included. If you need to download a separate MESH, make sure that you do this or the thing will not work.

Download the file and the MESH. Remember where you put it.

Unzip, unrar, un7z it into the following folder:

My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads

If it doesn't exist, make it.

If you don't have Winzip you can find it here:

http://www.download-zone-free.com/winzip/?OVRAW=winzip&OVKEY=winzip&OVMTC=standard&OVADID=1567058522&OVKWID=13322523022

If you don't have WinRAR you can find it here:

http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm

When you start your program the next time it will tell you Custom Content has been found, make sure you enable custom content. Turn off the game then start it again.

Now play, go to your buy mode or build mode and see if your new stuff appears in the catalog. It should.

Have fun.

Still confused! Custom content warning, on The Sims 2?

After down loading the Ford focus and mustang from the Sims web site. When the games done loading, a warning message comes up (CUSTOM CONTENT WARNING) on the screen telling me that I can enable or disable these items if the game does not run correct. The game runs ok, I am just confused about if this message, should keep coming back forever, Or is there something wrong. This was my first download from the Sim website, so I know nothing . The only way I can get rid of the warning is to deleat the cars and I would like to keep them, so if the warning is supposed to come up each time, let me know.Thanks.

Sims 2...help me please?? CEP problems??

The CEP does not make custom downloaded objects show up in the game. It allows recolors of Maxis objects (objects that came with the game). If you've downloaded some custom content and it still not showing up in game, you either got content not compatible with your game, or you've not enabled custom content.

Make sure any downloads are compatible with your game. Example: If you have base game and Nightlife, and you download CC for Open for Business, it won't work (could even make your game crash).

Once you've downloaded, unzipped/unrarred the files, and placed them in the correct location (My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2 > Downloads), you need to Enable Custom Content.

To be able to use any custom content in your game, you must enable custom content. To do this, start the Sims 2. Once the game has finished loading, enter a neighborhood. Now, click on the button with the three dots (...) then click on the Game Options Button (looks like a little gear or cog). Set "Catalogs Display Custom Content" to ON. If you have Nightlife or later expansions, set "Display Custom Content Dialog at Startup" to OFF.

Exit the game completely. Restart the game normally. Your custom content should be available. If not, try enabling custom content again, sometimes you have to do it 2 or more times.
