Why Does My Sound Do This

Why does my dog make a pig sound?

I have a shi-tzu puppy -- about 1 year old. A couple months back, she started making this noise that my son refers to as a "pig sound" It looks like she is tryiing to cough, sounds like a honk or snort, and sometimes will sneeze afterwards. she will do it several times a week for a couple weeks, and then we won't hear anything like that for another few weeks. She acts healthy and at regular checkups has been pronounced perfect. What causes this and is she in distress? Is there something to fix it?

Why does my sound get locked on my MacBook Pro and how can I fix it? Is this a big enough problem that I should be taking it in to the store. It has happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times and I have owned my laptop for about a month.

This answer comes very late, but if you are still having this issue here is what to do:Look in the Sound control panel in System Preferences under the Apple menu.Make sure Input is set to microphone and Output is set to Internal Speakers.Open Audio MIDI setup; it is in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.Make sure that it is set to Built-in Output.Sometimes these settings get messed up. Adjusting them should fix your issue. If not, try resetting the parameter RAM by restarting and holding down the “P”. “R”. and “Option” keys until the computer automatically restarts itself three more time. Then check the Sound settings again.

Why does my cat make a motor sound when he is on my lap?

The cats make that "motor sound" b/c it likse you. The cat is purring. Usually, when cats purr, tehy are happy.

1. In many ways this is true: behaviorists believe the original function of purring was to enable a kitten to tell his mother that "all is well." This often occurs during nursing. A kitten can't meow and nurse at the same time, but can purr and nurse without any problem. The mother often purrs back, reassuring the kitten using this tactile, resonant communication.

This is why your cat purrs when petted, instinctively giving the signal "all is well," a message you can both feel and hear.

But this isn't the only message purring may signal:

2. Older cats purr when they play or approach other cats, signaling they are friendly and want to come closer.
Veterinary Perspective...
When a cat is purring, it is almost impossible to hear the cat's heart or lungs very well, making examination of vital signs difficult. Oddly enough, many cats will stop purring if they're near the sound of running water. This is why you may see your veterinarian turning on the faucet in the exam room in an attempt to get your cat to stop purring - so your cat can get a better exam.

3. Cats also purr when they are distressed or afraid. Sick and injured cats, and those in veterinary offices often purr. It is thought that this is the cat's way of reassuring and calming herself.

Why does my voice sound so bad recorded?

Who told you your voice sounds bad in a recording? Or… is this how you feel after hearing your voice the way others do?Two things:As has been explained, no one else is capable of hearing you the way you do. You, however, can hear what we hear when you listen to a recording.Learn this very quickly: your feelings almost always lie to you. (This is really more of a philosophical matter.) We are, almost all of us, given to dislike the actual sound we emit. But how you feel is simply how you feel. It is not a truth coded in your DNA (and, hence, how you actually sound) or anything. You almost certainly have a different opinion about your voice than anyone else. So find someone who has no reason to lie to you (unlike your feelings, which will tell you anything to protect you from some imagined future embarrassment) and listen to them.

Why does my voice sound different on video?

You are hearing what your voice actually sounds like to other people. This is typically somewhat different from the way it sounds to you. This is because you hear the sound resonating through your head bones and sinuses, and other people do not hear that. That's why it's very important to listen to recordings of yourself when practicing a speech. You don't know what you sound like. When you do, you can alter your tone and develop a better speaking voice. Also useful for singers.

What should I do for an airy sound in Sax?

Sounds like your reed my be too thick, or possibly that you're not supporting your tone well enough. Make sure your abs are engaged and you posture is good. And don't forget to breath from the bottom of your diaphragm.
And Laura G brings up a good point, but if theres an air leak in your horn, it's not causing the airy sound. The sound could* be caused by a leaky mouthpiece, e.g. the reed isn't seated correctly, make sure it is with a pop test**. If there's a leak in your horn, it wouldn't really cause an airy sound overall. You'd only really have problems with the individual note(s) that are made by the leaky pad(s). The only leak in the horn I would definitely take note of is in your octave hole (first on the neck). Make sure it's clear of any debris when open and the pad is fully seated when closed.
*I say "could" because usually a leaky mouth piece means the reed can't vibrate fully, which normally would prevent sound production at all or at least significantly hinder it.
** A pop test can be performed by placing your mouth piece (with reed and ligature assembled) with the hole down on the chubby part of your palm just under your thumb. With it on your hand try to suck the air out of it. If the reed is properly seated on the mouthpiece, it should form a vacuum, and you should either hear a "pop" when you pull it out of your mouth or off your hand... Play around with the reed until you can do this. Good luck ;)

Why does my voice sound so high in recordings?

Without further detail, it’s tough to know for sure. The two most likely causes:Your audio recording equipment is picking up and/or recording more treble than mid and bass. Try recording your voice with lots of different microphones and equipment, even cheap stuff like your phone or a digital dictation device. Play around with any settings on your microphone and recording software. If your voice is high no matter what you do, thenYour voice sounds much deeper to you than it does to others. This is totally common—our ears hear what is resonating inside of our heads, not what is projected out. A guitar or cello would sound very different inside the instrument. My guess is #2. True story: my freshman roommate in college had the nerdiest voice I’ve ever heard in real life. Like, Steve Urkel nerdy. He had absolutely no idea his voice was that nasal until I told him halfway through the year. We recorded him so he could hear it and his mind was utterly blown.

Why does my voice sound beautiful when I sing, but when recorded, it sounds horrible?

An element worth noting in all of this is that you may be tuning your voice to what you're hearing, rather than to the acoustic of the room. When you sing, a certain percentage of the sound that you hear in real time is heard through bone, which can distort things. You may need to retrain your singing to ignore the effect of the bone, because it could be throwing you off. There's a cool trick that I love for doing this without having to record yourself all the time. Put your hand on each side up to the tragus of your ear (that little cartilage flap that's right on top of the ear opening) on each side. Put your hand there in the same position as though you were karate chopping, if that makes sense (but, obviously, gently). Then curve your fingers so that they outline the rest of your ear. You should look kind of like you're giving yourself Mickey Mouse ears if you're doing it right. Now try to speak. And try to sing, for that matter. Your voice should sound different but not THAT different. This is a pretty good approximation of what you sound like to people who aren't you. It's also a useful tool for where you should be recording your voice. Walk into a recording studio that you're thinking about using (or a room you're thinking of recording in), and try this out. If you don't feel good about the acoustic, record somewhere else!

Why does my ear sometimes sound like a cat is purring INSIDE it?

This started about a week and a half ago, and happens anywhere from once a day to three to four times a day - but suddenly, my left ear will sound like there is a cat purring INSIDE my ear, and it's really kind of annoying. It only happens for a minute or two at a time, but I can't hear out of that ear when it happens. It was so loud when it first did it, I thought maybe my husband would be able to hear it, but he just looked at me like I was crazy....

Why is it doing this, and should I be concerned?
