I'm scared of using my straighteners!?

When I first got my straighteners I was so excited and couldn't wait to use them. When I used them for the first time I burned myself on the shoulder and now it's a scar. Since then, I've been terrified of using them and my mum has to straighten my hair. I know that sounds babyish and I burned myself by accident 'cause I was straightening the ends of my hair and I think I went too far down 'cause the next thing I felt was a sharp pain in my shoulder and it was bright red. My mum has tried to get me to use them and I'm still scared. She had me practice with them cold, not heated up and I couldn't touch them without shaking. I'm even worse with them hot. I couldn't go near them!
Help please? Any advice? I don't want to have to go the rest of my life with my mum straightening my hair. I would love to be able to do it as my friends do! They straighten theirs before school and when they're going out and my mum only does it sometimes. If they're out in the rain and their hair gets frizzy, they straighten theirs. I can't that!
FYI I'm 14.

Why does flat ironing wet hair damage it?

“Do not be tempted by the idea to use your flat iron for drying your hair. This is a big no-no in terms of hair care. While wet, your hair is very fragile and you will damage it quite easy with the hot tool. Therefore, you need to patiently wait until your hair is completely dry prior to strengthening it. It is ok to blow dry it if in a hurry but do not combine the two manipulations too often in order to avoid overheating and damage of your locks.”Taken from: Chicago Hair Extensions Salon[1]Footnotes[1] Flat Ironing Tips to Keep Your Hair in Perfect Condition - HAIR EXTENSIONS

How do i keep my CURLY hair straight all day?

I'll just tell you what I do.

I wash my hair the night before, using shampoo and conditioner designed for straight hair,
i pat and blot my hair with a towel as to not create frizz,
then i apply garnie fructis smoothing milk cream to lock in shine and keep out frizz,
i then section my hair and blow dry my hair (this makes a HUGE difference because you are drying it straight in the first place)
i then flat iron my hair while using a heat protectant spray mainly on the ends,
then i apply chi silk infusion to the ends to lock in the straightness,
then i turn my hair dryer onto cool and low to get rid of any heat that may still be in the hair that might cause it to shape
then i use non water based hairspray as to not create frizz

in the morning, repeat everything from the flat ironing and down if needed.

How do girls everywhere have awesome hair that is silky, flowy, shiny, with no split ends? How do I achieve this with no frizz or flyaways?

Are you referring to girls in movies, commercials etc? Well, they have army of hairdressers with them on sets and everywhere to manage their hair for them. But we can achieve manageable hair up to certain extend on our own. With my own experience I can safely share some tips with youIf you have extremely frizzy, unruly hair then go for protein or Keratin treatments. Unlike permanent straightening, Keratin work wonders in taming hair.Dont use products meant for straight hair on curly hair. There are many products available specially for curly hair, invest in them.Never wash dry hair, always apply oil a night before or atleast 2 hours before wash. You can use good quality Argan oil instead different serums and curly hair balm.Fight dandruff with good anti-dandruff shampooAir dry hair instead blowing them everyday. Use heat protectant and give break to irons time to time.If you have any specific queries, post them in commentsP.S:My hair before keratin treatment. After treatment:

How good are GVP flat irons?

I heard that GVP (generic value product) irons were great and that is the one my stylist uses on may hair and i love the results. She said it is comparable to a Chi iron which are a ridiculous amount of money so they are out of the questions.

Also do certain heat protectants work make your hair turn out different than others. Like will some make your hair oily when you use it.
