Why Does The Check Engine Light Come On On My Dodge Dakota When It Is Idling

Why does my engine oil light keep coming on? dodge neon?

this may be something simple like the idle being a little low. But there is usually a reason for that which could be anything from needing a tune up to possible dirty injection system from the fuel you use. I always think simple first in these kind of situations. I would go buy a can of lucas fuel injection treatment and go down to the gas station put the lucas in fill up the tank with chevron super unleaded and take the car for a nice long drive.for several hours. This will help the engine clean out any deposits and blow them out the exhaust. Also consider changing the fuel filter if you cannot remember the last time it was done. Sometimes little things ad up. Clean oil is another good thing. If you cannot see the lines on the stick through the oil change it intil you can for 3000 miles. Oil can be dark this happens from heat but it should always be clear enough to see the lines marked on the dipstick.

2005 Dodge Neon: Check engine light came on out of nowhere and now I cannot go over 20-30mph...?

You need to know the trouble codes. When the light comes on, that means there is some sort of issue in emissions controls or electronic engine management. The code is stored in memory. Once you know the code, it will pretty much tell you what the problem is. Autozone will check them free if you can get there, otherwise you need someone with the code reader to visit your car.

I had similar symptoms on my '96 that turned out to be the coolant temperature sensor. Cheap part, kinda buried so was a PITA to get at.

My 2005 dodge magnum check engine light came on and the code P0700 Transmission Control System Malfunction.?

take it to a transmission shop and have them check it,there's very little you can do for the newer model transmissions these days, there more electronic than anything else, they,ll know what to do there's a possibility this one still may be covered under warranty also,if its go back to the dealer with it,it will be a free repair if its still under warranty.good luck.

Why is my car shaking and the check engine light flashing?

A shaking vehicle AND flashing MIL ("check engine light") sound like the vehicle is misfiring on at least one cylinder. As @Anna Nguyen, @Brendan Sinclair, @Antoun Nabhan and others have said, it could be an ignition related problem. It could also be fuel-related. If one or more fuel injectors are clogged or dead, that would also cause a misfire in the affected cylinder(s). These are relatively cheap/easy things to check and fix.Other causes (which could be more complicated and more expensive) to fix include contaminated fuel, a bent intake or exhaust valve, a broken valve spring, a damaged piston/connecting rod, and on and on.I recommend getting a scan tool and checking the codes which are causing the MIL to light/flash and I also strongly recommend NOT driving the vehicle until the problem is fixed. If you continue to drive the vehicle as is, you will exacerbate the problem. Dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust due to a misfire will overheat and kill your catalytic converter. A more serious problem like a bent valve can eventually cause you to crater your engine (i.e.: completely destroy the engine).

Check engine light came on during a very cold day?

It was really cold couple days ago, (6 degrees), and noticed my engine was having rough idle. It almost felt like it was going to stall if I didn't start moving (although it never did stall). I usually don't warm up the car on idle, since the manufacturer "recommends" driving the car at slow speed to warm it up during cold winter weather.

I just want to know if the check engine light, the rough idle, and the cold weather are related in any way. The rough idle only happens during winters. I even took it to my mechanic couple months ago for an inspection and he recommended new spark plugs and multi-V belt which really did need to be replaced, but that didn't solve the problem.

Please let me know if you have any advice.

1996 Dodge Dakota 5.2L Oil Light Flashing At Idle?

I have a 1996 Dodge Dakota 5.2L, and the oil light comes on when idling. When you hit the gas slightly it will go out. Engine oil level is fine, engine oil is clean, and the oil pressure guage is in the safe margin. Engine runs fine other than that.

If your car blew a head gasket, would the check engine light always come on?

No. Watch for white ‘smoke’ from the tailpipe always and if the engine’s performance has changed in some way look for this. The ‘smoke’ is essentially steam from water getting into the cylinders. You will often see this on start up but that should only be natural moisture evaporating out of the exhaust system. If it doesn't stop soon after you are underway then something may be wrong.Keep after your coolant level and see if there is a constant reduction. If the engine begins to have trouble turning over at start up, this could be a gasket leak that is percolating coolant into a cylinder(s) while the engine is at rest. And note that airbags won't always work, good ‘idiot’ light or not, so folks please STOP depending on brakes (which can also fail) to save only YOUR life, and to not roll up on people at 50 mph at a stop sign or red light, who are walking across the street or driving and checking traffic or waiting for that light…or an emergency vehicle. :p

What is the standard idling rpm's for a 1997 dodge dakota 4x4 with a 5.2 liter engine?

it will vary some ,but 650 to 800 rpm,s is normal for that one to idle at,it depends on what all is on in the vehicle sometimes the idle will drop down some and raise back up,it shouldn't idle below 500 though that will make it idle rough and possibly die out sometimes, good luck.
