Why Is History Important

Why is history important?

After reading this question I remember when I was in school when my friends used to say that why study history it involves a lot of cramming, boring etc. I on the other hand always enjoyed reading it. So lets begin:First the inspiration of any fiction is history. Had the history been not fascinating you wouldn't have had any fiction. From ASOIF to  TLOTR all draw their inspiration from history.Understanding the roots of any problem lies in going through history. Consider the problem of the Israel-Palestian conflict to understand it goes from the creation of Israel in the first place and before the migration of Jews to that place which all require going through history. History repeats itself. Going thoroughly through it  could help us in preventing many future unforeseen blunders. Per se if you go through any crisis or movement lets say some Revolution(from French to American , Russian or the current Arab Spring) all have had similar causes to begin and if knowing that such conditions are existing preventive measures can always be taken beforehand. All the evolution of us as a human being and why such certain traits exist in us, why we evolved in a way all the answers lie in history.History is a huge source of information which in a way also contains solutions to many of our problems so as not to repeat the same mistakes and also a guiding force.Human has always been a curious animal always trying to understand things which he does not understand and finding a logical explanation to those problems for which history always provides the starting point.

Why is history so important?

because it teaches us leasons or the imp pepopel leasons so they don't do stupid things again in the future. we learn history because a, the wanna torture us and b, they want us to learn the 'significance" and how it changed the world we are in today.

Why is history important?

History is important because WE ARE the past: we are the sum of all the events--good, bad, and indifferent--that have happened to us. This sum product guides our actions in the present.

This is true not only for the individual (imagine what would have happened to you had your parents never met, or had your parents raised you with different values), but for large societies as well (how would the U.S. be different, for example, if it had lost the American Revolution, or if the Spanish had founded the colonies of North America that became the United States?). In both cases the United States as we know it would not exist.

The only way we can understand who we are and how we got to be that way is by studying the past. Similarly, the only way we can understand others is by studying their past. If we don't understand what made them who they are--in terms of how they think and act--we will make all sorts of mistakes in our interactions with them. Think of how you treat people differently based on how you know them. The same is true for countries when it comes to diplomacy. Our failures in Iraq were borne of a limited understanding of who they are (because we haven't taken the time to truly study and understand their past).

"We study the past to understand the present; we understand the present to guide the future." -- William Lund

Why is it important to study history?

Studying history is very important because we can better understand problems facing the world today by comparing present problems with similar situations of the past. Further, a study of history helps us to vote intelligently for our representatives and to criticize constructively the actions of the government. In this way, we are better able to perform our duties as citizens in a democracy.

We become better educated amd more cultured. We learn the meaning of historical terms which have become part of our everyday language, for example : veto, boycott, czar, democracy, liberal, etc...

We learn to use maps, interpret charts and analyze graphs. We increase our understanding of daily newspapers, current magazines, books, and radio and television forums. Thereby, we can participate intelligently in discussions of vital present-day problems.

We develop the ability to analyze situations, gather information, evaluate evidence, distinguish between important and unimportant facts, and arrive at conclusions. We come to realize that civilized people try to solve their problems through intelligent reasoning, not force.

Why is world history important?

Because those that don't understand history are doomed to repeat it. We have to learn from the mistakes of the past and build upon the successes.

Why are history books important?

History books are a particular’s country subjective record of history that displays as much about their manipulation of reality, begging the revealing question of why they have to editorialise the facts, when held up to scrutiny of other histories the first history reveals the subtitles of the facts that coloured the apparent facts and interpretations
