Why Is My Laptop So Laggy Now

Why is my Laptop so laggy, slow and unresponsive ?

Okay so I have spent real time trying to sort this issue out, but I'm getting nowhere.

So I have a HP Envy 14" notebook with,

- Intel Core i5 Processor
- CPU @ 2.30 GHz
- 4.00 GB of RAM
- 500GB Hard Drive
- 64 Bit OS
- Windows 7 Home Premium

Though the machine is sometimes okay it just has moments when it won't do anything quickly or even at all which just ruins whatever I am trying to do at the worst possible times.

"Irritatingly Inconsistent" is an accurate description of the machine

The Laptop worked fine until it was about a year old when it started struggling with even the most basic tasks, I can be just Word Processing for example and the screen will just freeze up for 5 - 10 seconds, I continue typing and the words all appear at once. Using chrome to surf the web is a nightmare as well it often decide's to become unresponsive for a half a minute or so until it re-stabilizes. In-fact almost all programs I use become unresponsive now and again but usually respond again after half a minute or so.

Most programs that I run on it usually have some sort of difficulty opening up to the extent where I can be waiting nearly a minute just to open a browser or my documents. If I have several different tabs open the problem worsens which doesn't help anything. I used to edit videos on Sony Vegas 11.0 but that became almost impossible as the laptop just couldn't seem to handle it at all. Video streaming and playback isn't great but I can put that down to slow internet connection.

When I bought this Laptop I didn't expect to be have such problems with it so soon, as far as I'm am concerned it's still quite a good laptop but it always seems to slip up at the most basic times.

I have tried,

- Scanning for Viruses
- Defragmentation of Hard Drive
- Removing any Programs that I don't need.
- Disk Cleanup
- Freeing up Disk Space
- Changing start-up settings
- Uninstalling and RE-installing various programs.

I could go on. But now i'm rambling.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

Why is Goat Simulator running so laggy?

Alright here's the thing, I'm not too much of a PC gamer, and the game that requires the most graphics that has been run by my laptop is TrackMania, which runs with no problem.
Now, I've installed Goat Simulator and it's too laggy. My computer specs are the following:

*CPU: Intel Core Duo T7300 2.0 GHz
*RAM: 3.1 GB
*Operating System: Windows 7 32-bit
*Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT (Specs are the following)
-Pixel Shader version: 4.0
-Vertex Shader version: 4.0
-Dedicated Video RAM: 256 MB
*Free disk space: 11.9 GB

So, by what I have found out, I should have no problem running it. Most of my trouble on PC gaming has come from:
1-. My crappy Hard Drive, which is only 86 GB, but the game's minimum AND recommended free disk space is 2 GB and I have 11.9 GB, so I guess we can take that off the list.
2-. My Graphics Card's Dedicated Video RAM. But then, the game's minimum is 128 MB and I have 256 MB. Now, the game's RECOMMENDED is 512 MB, so might this be why it's so laggy?

To get most of this info I've used the online tool http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/ which is infamous for telling you that you can't run a game because the specs can't be compared and it shows a question mark when it doesn't know how to do this. But this isn't the case given that it has successfully compared all the specs.

So, am I right about the problem? And If I'm not, what might it be?

Why is my laptop slow?

There are some excellent suggestions here, so I thought why not give my two cents on the matter too.Step 1: Right-click on your taskbar.Step 2: Click on “Task Manager”Step 3: Click on the “Processes” Tab in the Task manager windowYou now have complete information of what is going on in your system right in front of your eyes. Foreground, and Background as well. Pay attention to the three columns: CPU, Memory, and Disk. When in Idle state, your CPU should be at around <10%, and Disk at <5% usage. Memory usage heavily depends on how much total you have in the first place. Right at this moment, My laptop that i’m using to write this answer, has a total of 4GB of DDR3L which is currently 80% occupied as I have 3 chrome tabs running and a file explorer window along with some background apps. Also, It is advised to check to make sure your “Power Plan” setting is set to “High Performance” (This setting is available in the control panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options ) since that can also slow down your laptop.

I hit my laptop and now its slow?

I am guessing you just damaged your hard drive. Your hard drive is very important and it has your operating system and personal files and programs on it. You will probably need to get your hard drive replaced after backing up important files.

Note: You will need to reinstall OS if you get a new hard drive so you better have a Windows CD or burn Ubuntu for free on a CD. Also buy a good hard drive so that your OS boots up fast and if you want a fast OS I recommend Ubuntu.

Why Windows 10 is slow in my laptop while same runs Ubuntu super fast?

Now is a good time to uninstall Window$ and join the open source community. There may be a power setting that is throttling Windows or the possibility of an overheat situation that Windows is slowing your CPU. My laptop CPU runs from 60 to 95 degrees but Windows wanted to slow things down at 65 degrees. Pull up Task Manager and check if there are resource hogs over running the CPU and RAM, some programs “Leak Memory” by using ram but not releasing it when they stop. It cannot be a hardware problem since Ubuntu runs properly.

Why Is my laptop slow even after upgrading to SSD?

Thanks for the A2A.While replacing a hard drive with an SSD can speed up performance, it is not the only thing involved in making your computer run faster. In your case, you are using a processor that is 3–4 years old. There is only so much you can do to speed up that machine. If you are willing to spend a little more money, max out the RAM. 4GB of RAM is just enough to run the operating system. So the reason you are seeing lag times is a combination of the slower processor (which you really can’t do anything about), and the fact that with only 4GB of RAM, the computer is doing a lot of swapping with the virtual disk. But the best recommendation I can make is to not put any more money into this computer and buy something newer if you truly want to see a speed increase.

How do I fix a lagging laptop running Windows 10?

The first step would be to use the disk cleaner inbuilt in Windows. Go to This PC on your desktop. Right Click on the C drive or the drive where Windows is installed and click properties. Click Disk Cleanup. The small window that appears will have the rest of the instructions on it. Also try to scan your PC with Windows Defender, to be sure that your PC is free of malwares. If that does not work, try cleaning your PC (desktop cabinet or laptop ventilation). Dust and dirt accumulation can mess with the cooling system of your PC and slow the system down.If that doesn’t work either, your only option left is to nuke the PC. Don’t worry, I mean you have to format the PC. Open the Settings app, go to Update & Security and select Recovery. Click Reset this PC.IF the performance does not improve even after resetting, you should look into the hardware configuration of your PC. For smooth performance, I recommend using at least 5th Gen Intel Core i3, 4GB RAM and 1TB of HDD.Hope this helped.

Laptop is slow after i replaced the screen? HELP!?

Hi Dave Cindy, this problem could be caused by so many things. First of all, it could be that your new screen has different specification from the one that was there before. Or there was accidental damage to your video controller or video drivers while the screen was being changed. Here are three possible solutions: (1)download and install intel graphics/media accelerator (2)update your drivers [you can do this by using device manager on your laptop or by downloading, installing and using driver updater software( I recommend "device doctor")] (3) change your screen again.

Why does my BlueStacks always slow down my laptop?

See it like this… by using bluestacks you are trying to run an OS on a working OS and then using apps in the second os. Its like picking up your teen child in your arms and then asking him to juggle.Okay on a serious note Emulators and virtualisation tools are all resource expensive ie they use a lot of resources of your computer as they are running a full fledged operating system and whole lot of other services. This needs lots of ram and processing power and thats the reason bluestack is slow..Now the remedy… Uninstall Bluestacks and start using meEmu its faster, better, more stable and needs no proxification tools when to be used on a proxy network it works with system proxy.
