Why Is My Memory Card Full

Why don't we get full memory in a pen drive or a memory card?

When we buy a pen drive of 8 GB memory, we can’t utilize the full space of the pen drive. The space available for storage will be around 7.25 GB and the remaining .75GB goes on storing system tables.System tables are internal table which contain memory links in USB drives. In short words, it store where each piece of information is stored in USB drive. It maintains a record of what and where information is stored.A simple example: When you want to play a 5th song, you enter 5 th song and it matches for it. This is because of system table and you can’t do the same on tape recorders. We say a USB drive is corrupted when the links in system table are mismatched. When you are formatting a pen drive, you are not actually erasing the contents of it’s memory. What you are actually doing is erasing the data or links in system table. These system tables are the ones which store backup info, drive info ans system volume info.

What should I do if my phone memory is full?

1. Move apps to SD cardMost of the apps that you install from PlayStore gets installed on your phone memory. You can move most of them to SD card memory and clear up some space. But some apps like WhatsApp do not allow it. Go to Settings >> Apps and click the ON SD CARD tab. Here you can see apps that are installed on the SD CARD. There will be a tick next to it. If any app is not ticked, it is installed in Phone Memory. Just click on it and you will see an option to "Move to SD Card."This way you will free up phone memory used for the app data. 2. Clear CacheNow, there are some apps like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. that you cannot move to SD Card. These apps will have a lot of cache files that eat up memory. These are mostly the facebook pages, photos, Instagram photos you have browsed/liked. These are temporarily stored by the apps, so that it doesn't have to download them again when you decide to scroll down the timeline again. But do you really scroll down again and again? NO. You can delete them without losing any data. So, again go to Settings >> Apps and click on Facebook, Instagram etc and click "Clear Cache" . Most apps have cache, just check for it and clear. 3. WhatsApp Media and DatabasesWhatsApp is installed on Phone Memory by default and it saves all the media you send and receive on Phone Memory. This eats up a lot of space, if you get a lot of images and videos daily. So, go to WhatsApp folder and Phone Memory and you will find the Media and Databases folders. Read more: How To Free Up Phone Memory On Your Android Phone (Beginner's Guide)

How do you know if the memory card is full in a Canon 5D Mark II?

It will flash FULL CF in the viewfinder and secondary LCD where you usually see exposure and aperture, and will say Card Full in the center of the main LCD. It will stop recording video, of course. Also you should notice frame count dropping on secondary LCD when card is almost full, your remaining shots count will dwindle.

Does a full memory card weigh more than a empty memory card?

The answer is: it depends. An “empty memory card” isn’t necessarily “full of zeroes”. A memory card is formatted for use by placing a filesystem on it. That filesystem involves data structures, which divide up the memory card into “sectors”, and mark which sectors are in use, which are free, and so on.The sectors themselves generally are not filled with anything: they’re simply left in whatever state they were already in.Second, while most people assume that ‘0’ is represented by no voltage and ‘1’ by some level of voltage, that’s not necessarily true - it’s often the reverse. I’m not sure about right now, but a decade or two ago, it was in fact most common for ‘0’ to be high voltage and ‘1’ to be low voltage.Lastly, while energy does have an effective mass, that mass is very, very small. Most likely, random differences in how the plastic encasing your memory card gets carved are far greater than any potential difference in mass from the data on the card.

My memory card says full but it's empty on my Nikon coolpix 775?

Page vii of the manual
"Turn the power off before inserting or removing memory cards. Inserting or removing cards with the power on could render them unusable."

It doesn't say what actually happens, but you do have an unusable card.

Have you tried formatting it in the computer (and upload and download a file to it) and then format it in the camera.
