Why Is The Name Kaia Pronounced This Way

How would you pronounce this name- Kiyah (for a girl)?

I love that name...I looked into it in my search for a name for my baby on the way, and it can be spelled Kaia. Kai is a hawiian male name meaning "ocean" , and Kaia is the fem., Kaia is also listed as a scandanavian name, but anyway, it's pronounced Kye-ah, so that's one way you could do it. Other spellings that I would read the way you intended are Kiyah, kaya, kiya, kaiya, kyah, kaiah. Btw...besides the spelling issue, how do you like your name?

Hard to pronounce names?

Why would she want to do that? Then the child has to spell it out and pronounce it wherever she may go! That's horrid.

Why not:
Audrey
Sophia
Nora
Elizabeth

Edit: As for suggesting Irish names because they are "pronounced differently" in that language, those letters make the sounds you're describing. There is no K in that language for example, and bh & mh make a 'v' sound.

Edit2: I know that was easy for me to say because A) I'm part Irish and B) I know *some* Irish. (I'm Canadian, it's not taught in the school system and I'm trying to learn it independently.) So take a look at this site to help you out: http://www.standingstones.com/gaelpron.h...

Pronouncing kaya?

I'd pronounce it K-eye-ah. Everybody always mispronounces names, no matter what they are or how they are spelled. My name is Elizabeth and people manage to screw it up! If you really love Kaya, don't let people mess it up for you. Name your daughter what you want, and don't be afraid to correct people when they are wrong.

Middle names and question about Kaia?

Kai is a Hawaiian word for ocean. I see Kaia as a Hawaiian girl, but also I can see it on a little blonde girl. It's a pretty name. I wouldn't spell it any other way. As soon as I see Kay I think "Kay" rhymes with "day".

With such a light name, I like an anchoring middle name with the accent on the second syllable, I think any of these are lovely with Kaia.

Kaia Lorraine
Kaia Leanne
Kaia Brianne
Kaia Brielle
Kaia Noelle
Kaia Serene
Kaia Cheyenne
Kaia Rianne

Do you like the girls name Kaia?

Wow.

Sounds black.... Sounds like a boy.... Sounds like a hippie.... She won't be able to get a job (?? lol).... Tacky and Trashy.... Ugly.

These are the rudest responses anyone has gotten today by far. Over a sweet name like Kaia.

I don't understand Yahoo Answers. Once, as an experiment, I thought up the ugliest name I could think of and that's the one and only time I got all positive responses. LOL!!

I wouldn't recommend a mother asking for real suggestions on this site, people are just mean, and I don't think these are even their real opinions half the time. They're just exaggerating.

Girl name - Spelled Kaia or Kaya?

Kaya. But both are nice!

My Chinese name is Kefei Zhang. If based on the pronunciation, what English name is more suitable for me??

I am assuming that Zhang is your family name, which you will keep, and you want an alternative to your personal name Kefei.Chinese and English phonology are very different, and it’s difficult to find names that sound the same. You might consider keeping your name, unless you are really concerned about the sound-alike “coffee.” If you do want to pick an English name, I’d recommend “Kevin.” It’s the closest match for the sounds. And you may know that family names in the West go at the end, so you would be “Kevin Zhang” in English-speaking countries.EDIT: Now that you have added the information that you are a girl, I need to change my answer, because “Kevin” is a boy’s name. I don’t think there is an English female name that resembles your Chinese name. I just looked through lists of girls’ names. What I was looking for was a name that began with a [k] or [g] sound, and had a [v] or [f] sound in the middle. I didn’t find any. It is probably best if you simply pick an English girl’s name you like for some other reason.
