Why Is There Skool It Is Bad

Why do school lunches taste so bad?

Generally a mass production of processed foods is never as good. Of course you cannot leave out the all important factor that schools buy in large quantities and extremely cheap. The food they generally use is cheap imitation foods that you wouldn't buy unless you had to.
For those who loved their school food I am jealous.

How bad is the school food at your school?

Actually, although it's nothing to brag about, it's not half bad.We have a choice of burgers, chicken patties, pizza, calzones, and fresh salads on a daily basis, and the lunch of the day: teriyaki chicken and Japanese pasta, mac-and-cheese, KFC style chicken, soup, the list goes on. They give us a good variety.Every lunch comes with a regular or chocolate milk. They also give us a huge variety of packaged snacks that we can buy with our lunch for $1. Doritos, cookies, Lays and Cape Cod chips, rice crispie treats, kettle corn, pop tarts, and a variety of fresh fruits. There is also pre-packaged ice cream cups and pops like this:And this:Which I also like to buy. You can also purchase seltzer water or regular water.I order my lunch from school usually about half the week and the other days I bring a lunch from home.Don't even get me started on the fresh baked cinnamon sugar donuts for breakfast…Edit: A lot of people have been asking me if I go to a private school. I don't, I go to a public middle school in Massachusetts. The state of Massachusetts has the #1 ranking for best public school system in the country.

Why are American public schools so bad.?

Not all public schools in the US are the same and you've certainly described some things that need to be better. American students tend to lack discipline as compared to international counterparts - I've heard teachers who have taught in other countries (China, Russia, Thailand, Argentina) complain about sloppiness in dress, handwriting, posture, work, etc, as well. Yes, high schools are full of sex and drama and most kids don't know how good they've got it. I routinely talk to my students about kids around the world who would literally give anything to get the education they so often complain about.

I wish you could have a better experience here - there are certainly some schools who offer more challenging course material, have uniforms, are longer, and have a more refined population than you're experiencing. Your school experience can be what you make of it - surround yourself with people you like and respect, take classes that interest you and ask your teacher for more challenging work, bring your lunch to school in the form of a sandwich or granola bar/yogurt/fruit (easy to pack), get involved in something like student council or Key club, and do your best to ignore the parts you don't like. There are plenty of American teenagers who feel the same way as you do. Remember, the stereotypical "ugly American" that you know from foreign travel exists for a reason. Some of us are loud, rude, sloppy, obnoxious and think things like "we own your country" but a lot of caring, kind, hardworking people as well. There are many things you should be able to enjoy as well, so try and see the good in your situation.

How bad are the public schools in the US?

They are mostly good enough. The question is silly. How many people move to the USA to educate and raise their children? How many move away fromt he USA to educate and raise their children? If the answers to those questions doesn’t tell you all you need to know, then I don’t think anything else I could say will really make a difference. But here goes anyway.Schools in the USA are mostly managed at a local level. So standards and curricula vary from state to state and even school to school. So it’s very difficult to answer a broad question like this. However, that being noted: Every student in the USA has an opportunity to receive a college prep style education regardless of their family background. Not many other nations can make such a claim. Now it’s true that many poorer public schools are not as pristine as elite private schools or even the public schools in wealthy suburbs. But there is tremendous political pressure on nearly all schools to offer advanced courses. So much so that one of the major challenges facing public schools is the issue of social promotion. We have gone so far in our attempts to provide advanced education in public schools that we basically eliminated vocational education. We are now finally starting to reassess the wisdom of this decision. In any case, there is tremendous opportunity at most public schools to study rigorous academics. Fine and performing arts opportunities are sparser in poorer schools. But that isn’t the issue most people are complaining about when discussing “How bad are the public schools in the US?”.The results of schools in the USA may not match the results of schools in some foreign nations. That’s because they are selective about which students they provide those opportunities to and they have a culture that honors authority. In other words: Teaching != Learning. Most people in foreign nations understand and appreciate this. That’s why people immigrate to the USA to raise children here. They know they can learn a lot in American schools if they have a good attitude and work hard. But go ahead and keep trash talking public schools and public school teachers. Just hold onto that grudge against your 7th grade math teacher and keep blaming teachers for cultural problems and don’t stop indulging your general antipathy towards unions.

How are there so many bad doctors when medical school admissions are so competitive?

I am a GP and have practised in the UK and now in Australia for over 25 years, I would like to think of myself as a good doctor , who treats patients holistically and kindly and who keeps abreast of medical teaching. When I applied to medical school I was interviewed by two schools , one was Newcastle , and this interview involved sitting at one end of a board room table being grilled about my grades etc, and when I said my other interests included ballet, for which I gained teaching qualifications at the age of 18 , singing and amateur dramatics, I was met with questions regarding my likely committment to studying hard and passing exams.I was put on a waiting list .Then I was interviewed by Glasgow university, which proved a much more relaxed and informal interview. I arrived at the faculty office completely drookit (drenched) by the rain , and asked an unknown male behind the reception if there was anywhere I could change ,so not to look like a drowned rat before my interview,Imagine my horror on realising later the unknown man was actually the Professor who would interview me!We spent the interview chatting about my school work , ballet and hair loss I remember , before he offered me a place conditional on me achieving three B grades in my A levels . I was motivated and delighted to get an offer and did go on to get A B C in my exams , which was accepted.I loved studying at Glasgow. It was bloody hard work and an exeptionally hhigh standard of teaching and exams to pass. At the end I felt as if I had really achieved something. I also was in the Universities Royal Naval unit for 5 years , as well as a few shows as a dancer in Glasgow. I made lifelong friends and embarked on my career.I have heard in the years since that the son of a Glasgow Professor had his application to study medicine there rejected at interview ,even though he was set to achieve straight As. So I feel they looked beyond simple exam grades and considered the applicant’s personality and bedside manner as important .I believe that this is why there are good and bad doctors, because some medical schools place too much emphasis on exam grades ,and there are many more qualities as important in becoming a good doctor.
