The Internet, being people on their computers voicing their opinion, is obsessed with “Illuminati” because of a need for a complex explanation that covers any thing that is wrong with global policy or the way the world is being run.The main origin for this conspiracy theory was from the New World Order theory made popular during the 20th and 21st centuries in response to apocalyptic and millenarian ideals.New World Order theory is of the belief that there is a calculated agenda among politicians and other highly-placed individuals of establishing a one-world totalitarian government.That’s not to say this theory is completing wrong or fallacious. While it may be exaggerated a lot by other thinkers, my position is that there are some elements that are true in this theory.History is full of incidents where secret societies have had influence over politics or policies like Freemasons, Jacobins, and the Carbonari. But in my view, there should also be more focus on public entities that may be having a subversive agenda in plain sight.These organizations include the Rockefeller Foundation, Trilateral Commission, Council of Foreign Relations, and Bilderberg Group. It can also extend to banks or corporations who have lobbied and controlled economic polices in the United States and other countries before.

Why are Americans so obsessed with The Illuminati?
I am not so sure it is strictly an American obsession although Dan Brown certainly did his little part to fan the flames. For me, the thinker slash writer who introduced the illuminati was none other than Umberto Eco, who I heard speak about the time he was finishing Foucault's Pendulum, a much more demanding and more interesting book that Dan Brown's best sellers. I think most people are intrigued by the possibility that there are secret societies and long-standing conspiracies in the world. I went to a liberal arts college in Illinois -- the same one that Wes Craven and Billy Graham attended -- that forbade students and faculty from joining secret societies. Nothing makes you more interested in secret societies than to ban them.
Why are the Illuminati obsessed with ancient Egypt?
When the Order of the Illuminati was suppressed by the Bavarian government, it cashed in its alliance with Freemasonry and became a secret faction within that secret society and has therefore adopted the symbols of Freemasonry, which derived off of ancient Egypt, into their order. Many masonic lodges are filled with Egyptian symbolism because there's an old Masonic legend that upon moving the obelisk out of Luxor, which was supposed to be transported to Paris, they found a masonic apron beneath the stone edifice. I think the actual reason the Illuminati are so into Egyptian symbolism might lie on an occult level. Egypt was one of the more advanced civilizations that practiced the occult sciences (Which we call magic) such as necromancy, theurgy and all the forms of divining magic. The All-Seeing Eye may have derived off of the Eye of Horus, but it doesn't necessarily mean the same thing. Anyone who knows anything about symbology can tell you that the slightest alteration of a symbol could change the entire meaning. The Eye of Horus was originally a symbol for spiritual enlightenment, representation of the pineal gland in our brains. However, the Eye of Providence, which relates more to the All Seeing Eye, is meant to be symbolic of God, but the symbol is only as valid as the one who perceives it, so which God would we be referring to? To the Illuminati it symbolized their omnipresence. The Pyramid is the most ancient of symbols that are of origins so old, it surpasses human writing. Many will think the pyramid originated in ancient Egypt, but it's far older then a lot of people are willing to speculate. The pyramid is very symbolic to the Illuminati because it not only symbolizes the power structure of this hierarchy by on an esoteric level it stands for omnipotence.
