What was the motivation for Wikileaks apparently helping the Trump campaign in the run up to the 2016 election?
I would have to agree with Wayne Carroll's answer to this question…Julian Assange & Wikileaks released the information of Hillary's emails because they had that information. Julian has stated that he didn't have any information on Trump & I believe that. I do realize that there is no love lost between Hillary & Julian as she made it very clear that she felt Wikileaks was a hostile enemy of hers. As I recall she made the statement. .”Why can't we just drone that m*****f*****?” It's a fact that Hillary stole the nomination from Bernie Sanders & of course the American public had every right to know this. I don't think Julian is a big fan of Trump either though. He has said that Trump is a wolf in wolves clothing so that tells me that he would have published any dirt on Trump as well if someone had leaked anything. In my opinion Julian is a hero that has suffered greatly to bring truth & transparency to the people…not just Americans but worldwide. He has exposed corruption & atrocities committed around the globe. The exposure of the Iraq files & other files leaked by Snowden did not make him a hero to those in Washington that wanted to hide the facts from Americans. There are so many things our government hides from the people of this nation…supplying arms to rebels…narcotic trafficking…using black sites to torture suspects…secretly overthrowing regimes in other countries…spying on the American people & the list goes on & on..we should ALL be grateful for Julian Assange & Wikileaks if we love transparency & truth in government as well as Freedom of Speech! Top Trump officals like Attorney General Jeff Sessions…Mike Pompeo & Mike Pence as well as many in Washington want to extradite Julian from the Ecuadorian embassy in the UK & prosecute him under the espionage act which carries the death penalty. Supposedly the department of justice has a sealed indictment to extradite. This is a ridiculous charge as it violates Freedom of the Press as well as Freedom of Speech rights! Everything Julian has published has been TRUTH. IN 10 YEARS WIKILEAKS HAS PUBLISHED OVER 10 MILLION DOCUMENTS WITHOUT A SINGLE RETRACTION! That is journalism at it's finest! If the US Government is upset…so be it…they shouldn't be committing atrocities & hiding facts from the people!

Astonishing question. But just to set the record straight (again). I was the UK's WMD and Iraq specialist for the UK mission to the UN from 1998-2002. I was steeped in the intelligence on WMD. I read a thick folder of intelligence reports every day. I was the diplomat primarily responsible for setting up the UN weapons inspection body, UNMOVIC. I took part in every UK-US bilateral meeting on Iraq during this period, and was part of the small team of officials who reviewed so called JIC (Joint Intelligence Committee) summaries of all available intelligence about Iraq's WMD before they were submitted to the UK cabinet. The claim, repeated ad nauseam to this day, that Bush and Blair were "misled" by intelligence that there was a threat is not true.
