Why Work To Put Food On The Table When You Can Just Live Off Of Government Food Aid

Why do we offer food stamps and other welfare services to the poor? Can't these people just find jobs and pay for their stuff like everybody else?

Because at least 44% of them are children, and it is illegal for them to get a job. Plenty more are disabled or elderly and physically can’t work. I happen to know a disabled firefighter with fourteen incurable problems who has to survive on food stamps. This guy would have run into a burning building to save your sorry ass, and you want to take food out of his mouth. Nice.Because most of them already have jobs, sometimes more than one, which still do not pay enough for them to pay utilities, rent, and put food on the table at the same time. This is your biggest Epic Fail, buddy. You assume most of the people on social services aren’t working. But they are. They just aren’t being paid enough to afford the basics of life. Many of them, especially in the winter, are faced with the decision of “do I feed the kids or do I pay the heating bill”? And if there is an emergency, like a flat tire or someone gets sick, they have to somehow manage to juggle all three, and food usually is the one that gets cut. The only way far too many people can juggle all three is with food stamps, and even then, at the end of the month they might be feeding the kids mayonnaise sandwiches and not eating, themselves.Pro-tip. And by the way, the average “benefit” is less than $10/day for an entire family, and less than $4.15 per day for a single person. I’d love to see you try and eat for $4.15 a day.Who Gets Food Stamps? Stay at home mothers on SNAP (Food Stamps)?

Overheard a lady ahead of me in line at the grocery store chatting with her friend. It went something along the lines of, "I don't want to go back to work, and how can I? I have kids." My eye caught a glimpse of her SNAP (Food Stamp) Debit Card swiping the console.

I had some initial shock, but then thought maybe she was a rare exception. My question is, if you have kids and then find out you are unable to make it on one income...is that your divine sign that you need to head back to work? Or do most people just seek out government assistance to enable them to stay at home? I am all for having mothers at home with their children, but should it be something taxpayers have to foot the bill for?

I am genuinely curious to get some opinions & insight on the issue. Oh, but before anyone suggests that their entire paycheck would go to daycare costs...I am quite aware of the daycare assistance/state facilities that are available to take advantage of. Although some may not be ideal, they are there.

Why do people live off of welfare?

Back up a second here, slick. Don't blame the people on welfare -- blame the liberals for manipulating the system so they'll get voted back into office every 2, 4 and 6 years. Here's the problem: You apply for welfare and you get on it. Now, let's say you're an honest individual who wants to work (as many people on welfare are) and you go out and find a part-time job making $150.00 a week. Guess what happens when the welfare office finds out about it? Your welfare is cut by $150.00 a week! That is EXACTLY what happened to my sister-in-law and her husband. Why would anyone go out and work if they can get the same amount of money by sitting at home doing nothing? To add insult to injury, when the Republicans talk about welfare reform and job skills training for people on welfare so they can get jobs that pay well enough so they won't NEED welfare anymore, the whiny-@$$ liberals go to the welfare recipients and say "The big bad Republicans want to take away your welfare!" See how it's big scam?

Now, of course there are those who keep squeezing out more kids that they can't feed in order to get more welfare, but most states have closed that loophole by saying they'll only pay for a certain amount of children (primarily because they can't afford it anymore). My attitude there is cut 'em off at two children and if they have a third then tell them they have to have a tubal ligation if they want to continue collecting welfare...

Why does crap like WIC and food stamps exist?

In my opinion, it's a waste pf government to give handouts to people who are lazy and just want to live off the the government. The majority of food stamp recipients are this way. Also, why should the government pay to feed your child if you can't? That's your problem. No one told you to spread your legs. If you can't afford kids, give them up for adoption or use protection during sex. Besides, do you really think we need more kids in the world? No. Maybe our government would be a little better if it wasn't supporting the scum of our country. Just a thought,
