Wifi Problem With Microwave

Xbox live and microwave problems help?

Wifi specs 802.11G and 802.11B run on 2.4GHz which is around the same frequency used to nuke your favorite foods. While the wifi signal is relatively low power, your microwave can easily override your router and disconnect anyone on it. Your best option is to purchase an ethernet cable and connect it to the xbox directly from the router, assuming you have an open ethernet port. You could also try to fashion a faraday cage out of tin foil and wrap it around the microwave, to stop the signal from overriding your router. 24 layers (1 for each 100 MHz) of tinfoil over the entire front of the microwave should do it (you'll have to cover the whole thing if it isn't in a cabinet of some sort)

Why does my microwave turn the wifi off?

So many poor answers.

Microwaves leak radiation. It's not harmful to humans. Do a quick google search, you'll see confirmation of both of those facts in the first 10 results. For it to be harmful in any way, you'd have to WORK in front of a microwave 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, for years.

Yes, it interferes with wifi. Distance is NOT relevant inside of a single story structure.

Microwave interfering with WiFi?

Yes, it's perfectly normal. A quick Google will bring up any number of similar accounts.

A microwave oven is essentially a moderately powerful RF transmitter - more powerful than many local radio stations. The idea that 600-900W power is going to be stopped dead by a couple of millimeters of aluminium is wide of the mark - it'll block perhaps even as much as 99% of the radiated power but that small amount of leakage is still quite powerful compared to the much lower power levels used by WiFi. The fact that this leakage is normal and expected is actually the very reason you are having problems: because the leakage is expected the microwave has to operate on an unlicensed frequency so it's use does not require a radio license. If it was possible to build a microwave that didn't leak the manufacturer could choose any frequency they used. Since there are only so many unlicensed frequency bands both microwave ovens and WiFi have to use the same band which is why you get interference.

It isn't even the most powerful demonstration of leakage: I recall perhaps ten years ago operating a computer with an old-fashioned CRT monitor close to a microwave. The image on the monitor was generally rock-solid but the when the microwave was operating the leakage was enough to cause the image on the screen to tremble slightly.

As for how to fix it you can try changing WiFi channels but to be honest I doubt you will have much luck because the tuning on microwaves tends not to be overly precise. The usual fix is to relocate one or other pieces of equipment. Another possibility is to invest in 5GHz WiFi equipment (both a 5GHz adapter for your computer and a 5GHz router): the operating frequency of that is sufficiently far from that used by the microwave that the two will not interfere.

Does my microwave affect my WiFi?

It can affect when the WIFi works in the 2.4Ghz, the new wifi’s Work in 5 Ghz. Nonetheless Microwaves have a very efective shield, so it should not, only possibility is when your WiFi work around 2.4 GHz and your MW is emitting outside the cabinet (malfunction).

No service and no wifi connection after phone put in microwave.?

My friends put my phone in a zip tight seal bag and put it in the microwave to see if the battery increases faster but after they did that my t-mobile GALAXY S2 has no signal and no wifi. how do you fix.please help asap

Why does my Microwave stop My Wifi signal?

Happens all the time.

You can try to avoid this by changing the channels.

Go into your wireless router.
There is going to be an option where you can change the channel to 1~12.

Try changing and running your microwave and see if the other channels than the one your using works.

My microwave is interfering with WiFi, how can this be fixed?

Not sure what kind of microwave oven and Wi-Fi router/wireless access point you’ve got but a well-shielded/grounded microwave oven jamming a reasonable strength Wi-Fi signal is possible but not probable, especially when the devices using the Wi-Fi signal are at least a few metres away from the microwave oven. To prove my point, here is a video I just shot to demonstrate that a well-shielded microwave oven should not interfere with Wi-Fi reception, at least not “shutting it off” anyway, unless the reception is already so weak any external interference can and will shut it off:Therefore, even though there are so many devices (e.g. microwave ovens, cellphones, tablets, laptops, and other wireless gadgets like my wireless rear speakers on my 5.1 surround receiver) sharing the 2.4 GHz unlicensed frequency band, they seldom interfere with each other’s well being, provided there is no leakage on the gadgets like a broken metal screen on the microwave oven’s window.

Why might a microwave interupt a wifi signal?

It's not unusual for an 802.11b, g or n signal to have issues with a microwave in the vicinity. If you can use a dual band N router and try only to use the 5GHz transmitter, this can help, or use an even newer 802.11ac dual band router. The microwave ovens also commonly cause interference with cordless phones that use the 2.4GHz band - use 5GHz or DECT 6.0 phones instead to reduce this interference. Cell phones should NOT be affected. The amount of RF required to cause router problems is small enough that it does not necessarily mean a faulty microwave seal. if you want reassurance, Radio Shack used to sell a microwave "meter" to read any stray leaks from the door seals. If they've stopped carrying it, there are probably equivalent items available online.

Why does my wifi connection go bonkers when the microwave or dryer is on?

More than likely you have bad or poor power at your place. If you happen to have an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) handy (for your computer usually) plug your wireless router into it and the next time you run either appliance and the problem starts to occur, unplug the AC power going to the UPS from the wall. The UPS will isolate any power line issues to the router and the “bonkers” should go away.Obviously this is not a solution. For that you’ll need a professional electrician to take care of the problem. If the issue is RF related (i.e.; the microwave is leaking and the dryer is creating spurious RF interference) issue/problem then physically move the wireless router as far away from the appliances as possible.Again, this isn’t a solution as microwaves should never “leak” RF and dryers should never create “spurious RF” noise.Good luck…
