Will A Dehumidifier Take Out The Moisture In A Mattress From A Peed Bed

Will a dehumidifier take out the moisture in a mattress from a peed bed?

No,It will dry out in time from the air,you might try a wet-dry vacuum to help a little.

Moisture under the mattress in the basement?

Here's the deal:

Your basement is basically a box of concrete buried in wet dirt. The concrete on the floor, is very porous and no matter how dry the basement is, ground moisture will always infiltrate the concrete and wick into the basement, specially during the rainy season.

Since you have the carpet there, that carpet is always soaking water, but the dehumidifier is probably drawing enough moisture to keep the carpet itself from getting moldy.

Now when you lay a mattress on top of the carpet, the moisture will pass from the carpet to the mattress, and if you don't give the mattress a chance to dry, the moisture will build up.

Mold needs 3 things to grow: moisture, warmth and organic matter to feed it. The moisture is coming from the slab, it will always be warm enough for mold to grow in your basement (mold grows inside a fridge!) and the organic matter... well it is everywhere... the fabric that wraps the mattress, bed sheets, and... the skin cells you shed while you sleep. Even household dust carries enough organic matter to feed mold.

How about you and your dad reach a nice compromise and get a bed frame and box spring, preferably one with wheels? This way you won't need to be lifting the mattress to keep it from soaking moisture. You can find good quality, used ones in tag sales and thrifty stores, like Goodwill and Salvation Army stores, sometimes for as little as $10 or $20

How quickly will a dehumidifier make a difference with a dust mite allergy?

Well, you have to do all the other protective things against dust mites - cover the mattress and boxspring, all pillows, with allergen encasings.  These will protect against existing dust mite droppings and prevent new ones.  Deep clean any rugs or carpets, have a quality portable air purifier for the bedroom (not just a whole-house filter), dust (damp wipe well) all the surfaces that tend to catch dust.  (There are types to avoid, i.e. ozone generating, and some that don't really do anything.  Be sure to read the reviews.  BlueAir is great, but expensive.)  Move the furniture, clean on top of shelving, door frames, stick to smooth surfaces instead of fabric where appropriate.  Hot water wash all bedding to kill mites frequently.  A dehumidifier will only make the room less moist; it doesn't mean that no mites will grow at all.  It may also help with preventing mold - for that you need to bleach window areas, any wet rooms (bath, kitchens), etc.  If you get all that under control, it will just take some time for your allergic reactions to peter out, depending on your level of sensitivity and whether or not you are on allergy medication.  For environmental, usually a few days to a week should be long enough for your body to clear the allergen since the exposure is stopped.  If you're the one doing the cleaning, however, make sure you have a properly filtered mask on.  Some temporary allergy medication might help, if you need it.

Help! I have a smelly tempurpedic mattress!?

So I have a tempurpedic mattress that is a couple years old and it has recently started to smell. my window has been open almost all the time this summer and my room became very moist from all the humidity. I am afraid that my bed has absorbed the moisture and started to mold! I didn't recognize the smell when I first got it so I don't think it's "just the way the mattress smells" this smell is not normal.

If there is anything that I could do to get rid of the smell please tell me!

How can we reduce the humidity in our bedroom?

Our bedroom is directly above a store room (not our property) and we have a high level of humidity which has caused damp to form on the underside of our mattress. How can I measure the level of humidty? How much humidity is acceptable? and how can I reduce any excess? There are no other signs of damp other than on the mattress which is placed on a hollow wooden frame with drawers at the sides. If anyone can help, we'd be very garateful!

Strange smell in my Bedroom! Any ideas on what it is and how to get rid of it?

house was built new 11 years ago. But as the years went on I started to notice a strange smell. I have difficulty describing it exactly, it is vague, yet strong enough to definately notice it. it is kinda like a mixture of rotten food, musty, stale dank air, and a small fart. I know it sounds weird. This is the only way I could describe it. its not just one particular odor and its so vague that it is hard to say what the smell is. I am a very clean person. There is NO food or garbage left out ever. There is no pet allowed in this room. I am the only person who sleeps here. I clean, dust, vacume, wash the sheets, everything top to bottom once a week. I have tried burning candles. Yet this smell keeps coming back. Usually it is most noticeable after I have been gone all day, then come home to a smelly room. I tried leaving windows open for entire day to air out. But now it is winter, and I can not do that. Seems to be stronger when the weather is damp. See additional details.

How long does it take to completely dry a double bed mattress? It was outside and got soaking wet, needs to dry?

Ok, so i texted my mam something about moving out so she tried to help by moving my stuff outside last wednesday, and anyways wires got crossed, and my matress ended up being outside, and it rained lol.

So, we left the heating on, and put it directly in front of it, and then left it in the empty bath tub over night to dry out, and put it on my bed last night when we thought it was completely dry. However, last night, i went to sleep on it and it felt all damp, i think the pressure of me lieing on is making the matress release water or something. What do i do?

And no, i cant just buy a new matress, It costed me £800 and its brand new!

Weird question i know. lol

My carpet got soaked with water. How do I get rid of the smell of mildew?

Will opening my bedroom window reduce dry air in my bedroom?

There seems to be lacking water vapors in my bedroom. I was wondering if opening the windows will do anything. How about opening the fan? Humidifier is my last resort.
I have been coughing a lot and I think it's because of the dry air. However, when I open my window I cough even more. Furthermore, humidity in my area is 56%.
