Will Asus Repair Center Remove All My Data

My laptop became slow after giving it to a laptop repair shop. What might be the reason?

I have my own personal experience with this.Once I sent my cpu for repair to one ofy uncle in neighborhood who happens to run a computer repairing shop. When he returned it I found my cpu to be slow.I don't know if he thinks me to be dumb or such but I was a tech enthusiast.I figured the case might be with the Ram. I checked it in control panel and voila my 3GB ram (3+1) was only 2GB ram :/I checked dxdiag and the same result. Then I picked up a torched and tried to look inside the cabinet case and voila. In one of the slot there was no ram :3I contacted him and said “Uncle I think you forgot to put one of my Ram in the slot when you finished repairing”He got perplexed and said “oh. the guy who works here might have forgot to put it back.Do you want other Rams I have better Rams you can try one of those.”I said “No uncle give me back my own Ram”.The next moment he was in my home and put it back.I didn't say a word. He left.I never contacted him again. I guess he learnt his lesson and would never do such a thing with people especially kids. Cuz these days kids are smarter than you think. So this might be the case with you too.He could replace a motherboard, processor etc with old ones. That’s why I recommend to always opt for servicing from registered dealers. Like if you have a hp laptop always try to choose hp for servicing and repairing. They won't want to lose their good will.If they lose they will lose their market. And keep a record of what equipments you got with product ID if possible.

How serious is the NVIDIA GPU overheating problem in Sony VAIOs?

I have 2 FZ190s with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M. I believe NVIDIA admitted to a problem in 2008. Despite foot-dragging, I think Sony is admitting to NVIDIA problems as of 8/2009. If my read is correct, the problem contributes to tremendous overheating of the laptop which in turn occasionally causes Blue Screen of Death crashes in Vista.

Can one live with this safely? I have my laptop hiked up off the desk with a fan blowing to help remove the heat.

If we need to fix this, does one have to mail the laptop in to Sony-San Diego for a 7-10 day fix? Or, is this easily fixable at reasonable cost locally? What would need to be bought and replaced/installed?

My laptop is my lifeblood. Mailing it off to the other side of the US for over a week is pretty onerous, not even factoring in the need to remove confidential data.

Any helpful suggestions?

Should i factory restore my computer?

First of all, CCleaner is not for malware removing. It is just a junk file cleaner.
Secondly, malware removing can be tricky but you must use specific programs that correlate to the specific infection you have. For example, if you have excessive amounts of ads, you may have Adware. To remove that, Junkware Removal Tool, AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Antimalware will remove most of it. If you have rootkits, other programs such as Malwarebytes Anti-rootkit, Malwarebytes Antimalware, SUPERAntiSpyware.

If you were to know exactly what type of infection you have, you can easily remove it with the right process, but if you don't mind resetting to factory default, that is probably your best solution.
