What is better, eating fruits or drinking fruit juices?

Want to share a recent experience before answering this. I was with my best friend last Saturday. A much-awaited get together! Gossiping, shopping, sharing! Just one change …eating replaced by dieting! I planned to eat momos, pasta, and what not! To all my dismay, She was on a diet. I know I was wrong, but my excuse was, “Momos has veggies, you can eat it!” Hers was, “Nhi yar, I will have juice!”She was very true in her approach until she opted for juice! Yes that is a great combination. Omegas are great brain food, curcumin shines as an anti inflammatory and probiotics provide great gut bacteria. They will not interfere with each other.

In India, as kids, we ate stuff such as “Khichdi”, ”Daliya with milk” as the food when you are not well. Banana is another fruit that you can take when you have either lose motion or say when you have constipation. It works. The list is long, depending on which region or country you belong to. Also, I think it depends on the type of sickness. I remember once, I had a very bad food poisoning and the stuff that helped me over come it is something known as “Curd Rice”.The story goes something like this.I was young and had a bit too many the previous last night. Didn't know when to stop and next day when I woke up, had to go to toilet at least 4 times and vomited at least 5 times. Felt like my intestines will come out of my mouth if I vomit one more time. I was throwing from both ends. Couldn't even keep a bit of water in my stomach. On top of it, had to catch an international flight the same night, for which I have to first travel from a place called Mysore to Bangalore by road and than take a flight from there to Mumbai and than to Amsterdam.On route to Bangalore to catch my first flight, sleeping in back of the taxi, I called and asked a friend to get me some medicines and he asked his doctor dad and got me a anti vomit tablet and curd rice. Essentially you just mix curd and rice together and it has cooling and stabilizing affect on your stomach. I somehow ate it and took the medicine. After around 30 mins, I was already feeling better and thinking, “now i can catch a flight”. May be it was medicine or may be curd rice or may be both but whatever it was, it made me better again.And of course, I promised not to be that drunk ever and I believe, I have kept that promise to myself :).On food of choice during sickness, the list can be big, but I think if you eat the stuff popular in your geography as a food of choice for that type of sickness, that is often a better choice than picking up new food for your tummy during sickness.Cheers, To health and happiness!
