How can I deal with fleas on my cat without the vets?

There’s a few ways to go about this. For short term immediate care, you can give your cat a flea bath. Follow the instructions exactly and you will kill any fleas on the cat. But you also need to kill the eggs and larvae where your cat sleeps. Wash the bedding, and if this is an inside cat use flea foggers throughout your house (you’ll and your cat will have to exit the house for 4 hours. After that, it’s probably a good idea to regularly vacuum/sweep/mop the entire house for the next few months because you’ll find new fleas hatching still.Now for long term there’s 2 options, the topical drops you put on your cat like Frontline and Advantage, or a good flea collar, and Seresto is the only brand I’m aware of that actually works. Up front the drops seem cheaper, but they need to be applied every month, while a single collar is good for 8 months.I’ve used them all, and they all seem to work great for the first year. But by the second year of using the same product, for some reason the effectiveness diminishes. After 2 years of Frontline, then 2 years of Advantage, I’m now on my 2ndyear of Seresto collars and I’m starting to see fleas pretty regularly again. I replace the collars every 6 months, but I think the fleas eventually grow immune to the chemicals. I guess next year I’ll go back to Frontline and hope it works again.A final note NEVER use flea medication labeled for a dog on a cat. The warnings are no joke, I nearly killed my wife’s cat of 14 years when I mixed up the treatments one evening.

It depends on what brand foods you are comparing to, or what your expectations are with feeding your cat.Longer answer.If your cat is generally healthy without any conditions, she or he likes it, and your veterinarian says it’s fine, nothing wrong with Fancy Feast (wet or dry). If you want to start learning about feline health issues, nutrition, and related, you’ll start learning that there are not only many more - and purportedly much better - feeding options than Fancy Feast. BUT I will also note that there are much, much worse foods than Fancy Feast to feed your cat. Generally speaking, the other supermarket brands can be nutritionally much poorer (already mentioned, Nine Lives, or Friskies), Some people will mention some of the so-called gourmet brands of cat foods available usually at the bigger, specialized pet stores (depending on where you are, big chain stores like PetCo or PetSmart carry a lot of different gourmet brands, but they don’t carry everything that’s out there).But if your cat likes it and you give it some amount of variety (meaning different flavors occasionally), that’s fine. I usually buy a bunch at a distant pet store when they sometimes sell them for about $0.55 a can on sale, sometimes even cheaper (but rarely).Best thing is to make sure you bring your cat to suitable veterinary exams and ask your veterinarian about ideas for improving feeding. And be serious about it.
