Will I Regret Later After Completing A Graphic Design Course

Anybody dislike or regret being a graphic designer?

First off i want to say i love graphic design and will continue to do it for fun regardless of what i end up doing for a career.

I've been a designer for a little over 5 years and im just fed up with the industry. I met some really great and talented people but the business side just got to me. I was lucky enough to be working in the field for as long as i have and worked on some pretty cool projects. One issue for me is, fulltime jobs with benefits of any kind are close to impossible to come by. I really dont want to struggle later in life in a field that changes so quickly and is so unstable.

With so many people using templates due to their increasing ease of use and customization, im afraid there will be little to no jobs left in the future. I got lucky with my fulltime gigs and knew the right people to get in through the door but most of my college friends werent. In fact very few people i went to college with currently design. The field is so oversaturated with people claiming to be designers that it just makes things too hard for people with actual skills.

I'm not looking for any negative remarks towards me from people who are happy with the business. If you're happy and the design world is treating you well, then congrats and i wish you further success. I want opinions of people who are in a similar situation or have any advice to offer this burnt out designer.

Only field i can think of getting into without much schooling is the IT world? Any thoughts or advice?

Is a design degree in graphic design worth it?

I can just try to answer this subjective. Or more precisely, give you a subjective insight. Why that?I’ve a degree in graphic design (if someone thinks I want to brag with that: people, come on, please. And I'm now trying to earn my money on working in this industry.Does it work for me? Yes it does. I'm in an agency as a junior, started with an internship there. So, if your goal is to earn your living with graphic design, a degree works out fine. Does it work with an apprenticeship? It would. There are also people who made an apprenticeship in similar fields, made an internship or two further on and are on the same level as I'm now.Important: this is how it works in Switzerland. I don't have the knowledge about the education in other countries. This is also important because we pay just a little tuition. You can pay those yourself, you don't need loans to make this education.Let's go further: do you want to earn a lot of money? Head to business. I’m not saying you don't earn money in graphic design. It’s a bit like: you want to play volleyball. So you'll goanna play volleyball and not football (soccer), because you like especially that sport. Not because you have more chances of getting rich with football (bigger market and so on, seen as a European). A little simple, but perhaps it helps to understand.Do you want to do graphic designe and creative stuff? Then it’s worth to keep your track. Or at least it was for me.Facts straight: under given circumstances, you can easily earn your living with graphic design. So a degree is worth it.But further on, you really have to be sure what you want. Money? Doing creativ work? Do you like it? Is it just a backup plan?I can’t answer that, but hopefully my (a little bit beer-inspired) answer helps out or gives you another insight.Keep it up!

Should I drop out of graphic design college?

So, here's what I take from your question:You are very intelligent, and very talented.IF you can manage to stick out the year, that will help you get into higher level courses, and that might let you get some real benefit from your program.  A college degree is a really useful thing to have, because people are narrow-minded, and often later, will not hire someone, just because they don't have one. Also, at your age, your abilities are only going to keep getting better.  Trying to go to design college later, might just leave you feeling even farther ahead of the courses, and even less motivated. If you can manage to get through it now, the other thing that design college ought to supply you with, is contacts in the art/design world.  If for no other reason, consider staying for that.  If the program you are in cannot offer you that, then it isn't as good as you think it is.  And if that is the case, perhaps you should consider applying to an even better school, assuming you have a rocking great portfolio now that you've taken some courses at design school. But if you really can make a living as an entrepreneur, and you just cannot possibly stand staying in college, and it is worth the loss of opportunity for just two or three more years to have that entry key that so many people out there want, then go into business for yourself.I've tried both ways.  I ended up getting a regular college degree, and taking a few design courses.  Then supported myself as an artist for about twenty years, and then did a complete turnaround, and became a mental health professional. You probably do not lose anything by completing this term, and taking a "leave of absence" for the next term.  Then you can see if you can really make it work.  If you falter, you can go back to school. The bottom line: try not to limit your options, and always take full advantage of the opportunities any situation offers.  Design school should offer much more than just what you learn in class.

Is it worth becoming a registered nurse? please read and help.?

So i really want to be a registered nurse and then later on go to school and maybe move up to become a trauma/emergency room nurse. ive been doing a lot of research, and people always say that being a nurse is a terrible job, and it does not pay enough. it also says that nurses make about $50,000 a year at most. its not about how much money i will make. i honestly love to help out people and i am really passionate about being a nurse but i dont want to go to school and spend a lot of money on a career that will leave me poor. I want to go to school and later on in life have a nice house, a nice car, and a way to support my family and put my kids through college (if i have any) .
my question are>>>
1. How much do ER/RN nurses make? (please be as accurate as possible.)
2. Is 50,000 really not a lot of money??? I mean my dad is the only working person in my family and he only makes about 30,000 a year. There is 4 people in my family and we all have a good life. I mean we dont go on vacation every month but we do live in a really nice neighborhood, we have a nice car, we shop at nice stores and all. I live in ILLINOIS and it is an expensive city.
3. i heard a lot of horror stories about how ALL doctors hate nurses and just make their life hell. is it true or do people just make that up?
4. Do you have any tips on what to do when i get to college and what classes will help me. or anything helpful?

im sorry if you find a lot of mistakes in my question. im not American so i have a hard time writing without making any mistakes.
& please be nice. dont post any rude comments.
please and thank you.

What do you think about a second undergraduate degree?

Honestly, I'm really regretting my current choice for my undergrad. I have one year left (out of 5) for my Bachelor of Design which will most likely lead me to a career in graphic design. But I'm finding I have no interest in this sort of career at all. I enjoy art and design but more as a hobby and what I've always been passionate about has been biology and wildlife conservation.

So now, I want a degree in Marine Biology. It would take me three more years to complete that. I also know that biology careers usually require a Masters degree and possibly a PhD too.

I'm going to finish my first degree because I've spent too many years working towards it to quit now, but what do you think about going for a second degree?

People have suggested going straight into a masters, but a masters in science requires a bachelor in science (or at least something remotely related, I've looked into it) so that is a no go.

I also don't have much money, and a load of student debt from my first degree. It really sucks but I really don't want a design career anymore. What do you think? Has anyone done a second bachelors degree?

Should I major in Graphic Design?

At first I wanted to major in Computer Science but then I realized I had to take a lot of math which is not a strength of mine. I always wanted to work with computers so I was wondering if majoring in Graphic Design is a good idea career wise? I took graphic design classes in high school, so I already know how work with programs such as Indesign,Illustrator, and some Photoshop.

What do You need to become an interior designer ?

Interior design is a glamorous job but the occupation pool is small and competitive. A university degree isn't essential and in fact unrecognized in many countries.

Research universities courses & find out what score & high school subjects are required for admittance into your desired degree.

There may not be any prerequisite subject. I'd recommend taking subjects in high school that relate to interior design. Find subjects that involve drawing, drafting or programs such as AutoCAD, adobe suite. Photography would be beneficial as it teaches design principles. Science isn't relevant but I'm sorry to tell you, Maths wouldn't hurt as you will have to do some measuring.

According to payscale.com the median salary is 32-49k.

I'm going to attach a link (check sources) to a real interior designers resume so you can have an exemplar and clearer idea.

I really wanted to study interior design but it wasn't available where I live, so I've gone for second best, architecture. You are lucky if you can study it!!! :)

Good luck :)

What advice do you have for a person who graduated with Graphic Design but is terrible, dislikes it, and would like to do cartoon illustration?

You can practice cartoon illustration first on paper and later on on your tablet (there are many good drawing apps out there, my favorite is Procreate) also you can buy a Wacom drawing tablet and use it with Photoshop or Illustrator.I have studied graphic design and I liked it but I always loved cartoons as well. To be cartoon illustrator you will need to dedicate time for practice drawing. You dont need to do a degree. But as sombody mentioned above it is difficult to find a job as illustrator. So I would suggest to you to do illustrations additionally to graphic design.Hope this information is helpful for you. Good luck!
