Will My Port Rules Reset If I Format My Computer

Is my CMOS battery bad or is it something worse?

Hi,

I have an old PC I assembled in 2011. I haven't used it in a over year, because it started rebooting constantly.

I have checked my tempatures - all good.

Voltages seems to be fine.

I cannot see any temperature on my MB's VRM in HWinfo. I suspect it doesn't have that sensor. (P8P67 pro rev. 3.1)

Something confusing is my BIOS showing my RAM running at 1333 MHz but they are capable of 1600 MHz

I've had a nagging feeling about the MB being at fault. I fear it's a bad VRM or PSU, based on online forums.

I did a calculation on my setup; wattage wise. It draws up to about 750W and I have a Corsair HX850 pro.

Pretty confident my PSU was not at fault I started reading about types of MB failures. Where I learned about VRM overheating. But I saw someone suggesting someone to check their CMOS. So I read up on that, and all sources I found, listed shutting down constantly as a symptom. But having no issues with dates etc. I kept fearing the VRM is overheating. Then I found a source listing poor external hardware detection, as a sign of a bad CMOS battery. I have had issues with that for a few years, having to change the USB port of my mouse constantly and occasionally having to reboot my computer because my keyboard wasn't detected. Furthermore it never registered the microphone through my audio-amp.

Is my MB dying/bad?
Is it most likely my PSU?
Or is it something as simple as a bad CMOS battery?

Thanks beforehand ?

How do I unlock a USB port without administrative privileges?

There are 5 ways an administrator can prevent using of USB DrivesThey are:Altering registry values for USB Mass Storage Devices.Disabling USB Ports from Device Manager.By Un-installing the USB Mass Storage DriversUsing third-party freewareUsing Microsoft Fix It.Lets us look at how we can fix these problems and enable USB on Windows 7 PC.1. Enable or Disable USB Drives and Mass Storage Devices using RegistryIf the administrator is smart then he would definitely do this to ensure a tight blockade. He would alter the settings through regedit command on run console. Now how do you unlock it ? You have to go right into where the administrator has been. Here is how.Go to Start > Run , type “regedit” and press enter to open the registry editorNavigate to the following keyHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\USBSTORIn the right pane, select Start and change the value to 3. (The value 4 will disable USB Storage). Click OK. This will re-enable USB Ports and allow you to use USB or Pen drives.2. Disable USB Ports from Device ManagerIf you still don’t find your USB drive working, you may have to look into the Device Manager. The Administrator could have possibly disabled the USB port here. Check out for any possibility in the Device Manager and enable the disabled port by right clicking on selected one and click Enable.3. Uninstall USB Mass Storage DriversIf the authorities are really worried about security in the school they would take the extreme step of un-installing the USB Mass Storage Drivers. To make things work, just install the device drivers. Here is how you do it.As when you plug-in your USB drive, Windows will check for drivers, if not found Windows will prompt you to install the driver. This would definitely unlock the Pen drive at your School or office.4. Use USB Drive Disabler / EnablerYou can download and use a free tool USB Drive Disabler / Enabler which will allow you to easily enable or disable USB drives on your Windows computer.5. Prevent users from connecting USBIf a USB storage device is already installed on your Windows computer, you can edit the Widnows Registry to ensure sure that the USB does not work when anyone connects it to the PC, using thisMicrosoft Fix it 50061. Check first if it applies to your version of the Windows operating system.

How can I retrieve my data from a laptop if the motherboard failed?

In most cases, the only data found on your motherboard is in the BIOS-chip. You would have little to no interest in grabbing that data, as it only contains the essential system settings.I think you’re talking about data on a hard drive or SSD, which is the data container, so to speak, that is attached to your computer.I’m going to make a rather crude analogy now.Think of it as the passenger cabin of a car → The hard drive/SSD is the cabin. This is the part of the car that contains people and items and carry them around (this is data, if you follow the analogy). The engine, wheels etc. are part of the functionality of the car, and can be compared to the rest of the computer - including the motherboard. The motherboard in the car analogy would be a sort of mix between an engine and a chassis. It does not contain data - but it ensures that you have use of data. It is the basis for the functionality of a computer. If your question is really “can I extract data from a broken data storage unit (hard drive / SSD), then my answer is “it depends”. If the drive/SSD is broken to a certain degree (if the cabin of a car was smashed or crumpled, you’d be unable to put anything into it), then no. If not, then yes.If your question is “my computer is not working. Can I still recover my data from it”, then the answer COULD be yes - unless the hard drive/SSD is the thing that’s broken. You could be fortunate that what’s not working in your computer is another component. In that case, the hard drive/SSD can be removed quite easily and attached to another computer. Most often the data would be intact. There is an exception to this rule in cases where storage chips and storage logic circuitry have been fused into the motherboard itself - but Leonid S. Knyshov already answered that part of your question.

How to figure out my router pass and username?

Since most routers run embedded linux, if you know someone who is a linux geek they may be able to help you extract the info, but if you just want to get things happening again with a minimum of fuss it is probaby easiest just to reset your router to factory defaults and start again .
Bear in mind you will lose all information stored in your router like login name, passwords, filtering rules, any port forwarding info and such the like.

My router lights turn on but doesnt work?

How do I get my Mac to recognize an external dvd drive?

External drives (CD or DVD) when connected to a Mac are not listed as a device in the Finder, until a disk (blank or media) is inserted in the drive.Once, inserted, and loaded, the media will appear as a disk in Finder. If it is a blank disk, either iTunes or Finder will let you know about that as well.If you have and it is not recognized, you have two options; 1. Open Disk Utility and see if the drive is recognized but not mounted. 2. Perform a SMC reset.Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your MacAfter the system restarts, try connecting the drive with media. If that works, good. If not, then as John Williams suggested earlier, take it to Apple (they are not called Apple Store anymore!).

My laptop is showing limited Internet access over my home WiFi connection. What should I do?

Let's try to understand the problem first. You are getting message of Limited Access when you are connected to your wi-fi. It means you are connected to your Router but there is no internet or there is internet but your computer isn't able to recieve that. It means your LAN card is working fine. Now we have 3 different steps to fix this issue but before going further just restart your computer.1. Disconnect your computer from your wifi and re-connect it. If this works then no need to follow other steps.2.Go in Start menu and search CMD or Command Prompt. A black window will be pop up on your screen. You need to type further commands : ipconfig/release then press enter, ipconfig/renew then press enter, netsh winsock reset then press enter. Restart your computer. Normally it should work by now.Still if you are facing the same issue then, follow 3rd step3. Restart your Router/gateway router. And follow step 2 before restarting and if it still doesn't work then contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider). At this point there is no issue in your computer because you are already connected to your network. It is just your network.I hope it helps. Thanks.
