Will Weight Lifting At The Gym Stun My Growth

Can weight lifting stunt your growth and how?

I'm 13, 5'9, 157 lbs. And I lift weights 3 days a week. Lots of people say weight lifting stunts your growth, and I'm really hoping to be pretty tall. So can weight lifting stunt your growth? And how? Can I keep lifting weights and keep growing? Have I already ruined my chance of being tall?!

Does Lifting Weights Stunt Your Growth?

I don't know why this myth/urban legend is so damn popular..

I think I answer this question 4-7 time a week.....

There is ZERO medical evidence that weightlifting caused X individuals who were supposed to be Y tall to only reach Z in height.

Just like your hair color, eye color, sex, etc, your height is predetermined by your family genetics at the moment of conception.

Weight lifting/physical fitness WILL NOT, CAN NOT, DOES NOT stunt your growth!!!!

In fact is has been scientifically proven that proper weight training can stimulate the pituitary gland to produce more Growth Hormone (GH), which may have a positive affect on someones overall height. Also, persons who are into weightlifting and physical fitness tend to take better care of themselves, which can allow their body to maximize its overall height potential.

Only 3 things can change or "stunt" normal human growth:

Malnutrition

Disease

Excessive, Chronic Drug Use

Massive injury to an individuals spinal cord may affect their overall height, but the body would still "grow" to its predetermined height and size. So even a weightlifting injury would not "stunt" growth.

How many times can you possibly ask this same question? You must be in the negative points by now. Google it for God's sake and move on!

Does weight-lifting stunt penis growth?

Hi, Im 15, turning 16 in July. I have been doing weight lifting for the last 3 months. I workout mostly upper body, and occasionally my legs. I workout on average 3 times a week, and not full hard core workouts, just a good weight-lifting session. I do cardio, and play soccer as well. Doing these things, as I know weight-lifting stunts growth, will that also stunt the growth of my Penis? Im 5'5 in height, 145lbs, and my penis is exactly 5" when erect, and 3.5" girth. If I continue this routine for the next 3 years, would that make a diffrence to my Penis growth?

How does lifting weights at a young age stunt growth?

Lifting weights does not stunt your growth, its a myth. There is another theory you might like though, weight lifting can actually make you taller.Maybe not more significant than your DNA construction but the theory is that when you lift weights your bones grow stronger to be able to handle the exercise and in the process they might increase in length too hence making you taller however insignificant it may be.

Does lifting weights stunt growth if your technique is bad?

This depends wildly. Only certain injuries can stunt growth, (a shoulder impingement will not) And some exercises will not hurt you if you have bad form, (power shrugs or cheat shrugs)Growth occurs in the epithesial or growth plates, so growth is usually stunted if those are fractured. However, certain spinal injuries like herniated discs will likely not stunt growth. They do not affect the growth plates, same with knee injuries involved with lifting. It is usually fractures that will stunt growth, not lifting injuries. That being said, ALWAYS focus on your form in the gym, it does not matter if a herniated disc does not stunt growth, those things are very painful.Hope that helps and happy lifting!

Does weight lifting reduce or stunt height and stop growth?

I would like to add a tinge of logic-based introspection into this myth:1). To straighten a folded and creased paper you can’t simply expect to press it hard with your palm for few seconds or even minutes to straighten it out. No, it just doesn’t happen.2). You would have to put up piles of heavy stuff on it for hoursssssss on end and still can’t expect it to be flattened out.3). Living beings or things GROW under short bursts of stress. Its a fact. The stress placed on it directly translates to the things or parts to grow stronger or bigger.4). Kids have a higher potential for growth and development simply because their metabolic rate is high at young ages.5). Weight-training sessions are purely stressful to the body. Most weightlifting sessions are done for an hour.6). When short bursts of manage-able stress through weightlifting is placed upon the young bodies, they grow. (Check Wolff’s Law)To Stop or Curb their height, you would have to put kids under weights for 24 hours for weeks to curb their height; which STILL IS DOUBTFUL, because body finds its way to recover and build up a stronger self.7). Check Arnold Schwarzenegger. He was a full grown bodybuilder at the age of 13. His height is about 6 feet. Did his height stop?NO! There are many other examples on Google. Do some search. My whole point is:If a fucking sheet of paper doesn’t flatten out under heavy stress placed on it for hours, How can kids’ heights stop increasing through weightlifting sessions done for an hour.!!!!Infact, they would not only grow in height, but their bone density will be Amazingly high. This will make them less prone to injury and make way for a STRONG Bone Framework to build stronger muscles on.Please Upvote and FOLLOW if you find this helpful.Best of luck.Stay strong, Stay fit and Stay happy.Divya KothariThe Kineo
