Wisdom Teeth Extraction Pain

How painful is wisdom teeth extraction?

OK I just got back from the procedure, and can now vouche that it doesn't hurt that bad. I was going to do the local anesthetic, but I kept gagging for whatever reason after getting the needles. The stuff leaked into my throat and was making the whole ordeal hell. So they hooked me up to an IV. I didn't want to do that initially, because I had never gone under for anything before, and the idea felt weird to me. but I said OK, I'll give it a shot.

It was weird. I had my eyes open, and the IV in and I remember the assistant saying OK we're ready to go...next thing I remember is someone saying "OK you're all done." So I have no memory whatsoever of the operation. I don't even remember falling asleep. It was a light sedation I suppose, but I don't remember being awake for any of the operation. Needless to say, I feel no pain. Right now my mouth has gauze in it, and I'm eating Wendy's Frosties for the time being. So far no pain, but I'm on the meds. Glad they're out of there!

Lot's of pain on 3rd day of Wisdom Teeth extraction?

Inflammation reach its peak at around the second or third day. For the first couple days after the treatment you should use an ice pack to reduce swelling. After about 3-4 days you may use a heat pack to diffuse swelling. Make sure you're taking the medication your dentist has prescribed for you. Stay on soft diet don't chew too much. The teeth in front of the wisdom teeth may also be traumatized with movement. Most people feel "ok" within a week after wisdom teeth removal, some felt like nothing happened the next day and some take longer.
Your jaw feels stiff is called a "trismus" it's not all that uncommon. It even eventually get better but you want to avoid stretching or working your jaw too much this week. Yeah, try to be quiet and don't talk too much while it's trying to heal.
A condition known as "dry socket" happens when the blood clot gets lost in the socket. It happens 3-5 days after the extraction and it really HURTS. You'll be in tears and you'll be calling your dentist and not spending time asking us on the internet. So it's probably not it, it's more common for a smoker than anyone else.
If you're still have pain or if the pain worsens in the next couple of days don't hesitate to call your dentist for another look.
good luck.

No pain after wisdom tooth extraction?

Thanks for asking. My family story just will not go away. It answers your question perfectly, though.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry, because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine. She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.

Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.

With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)

I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth (and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

Post-wisdom teeth extraction: pain in 2nd molar when I bite down?

Possibilities:
-could be the nerves in the area of the extraction sites (very low possibility).
-could be that the jaw bone is fractured and the bite is now out of alignment (extremely low possibility, barely worth mentioning).
-could be the adjacent teeth were traumatized by the extractions. The prognosis and treatment in this event would depend on the results of specific tests that the dentist would do on the problem teeth. Odds are they'll be fine and the problem will subside over time.
-could be the gums surrounding the teeth adjacent to the extraction sites are the problem (especially if you have gum disease/gingivitis in that area).
-could be an infection in the extraction site
-could be "dry socket" but it doesn't sound like it.
-could be an unrelated situation that just happened to appear after having the extractions: a new problem with either teeth, gums, or soft tissues in the area (very unlikely, but more likely than fractured bone or nerve problems).

Advice: go back to the dentist/oral surgeon who removed the teeth for evaluation.

Note: it is very common for a person not to be able to accurately identify the location of oral pain. There are a host of complicated anatomical issues that make confusion in localizing pain the norm in that region.

Wisdom tooth extraction post-op pain?

thanks guys thats what it feels like its not really painful just feels like a small tooth ache just popped a pill its a little better but can still feel it a bit. My surgery wasnt bad at all, no swelling and bleedings gone and I been walking around, driving and what not since the day after the extraction. Just wanted to know if the pain might have meant the dentist damaged my other teeth.

Pain when rinsing with salt water after wisdom teeth extraction?

hmmmm, im not too sure... but i had one wisdom tooth taken out a few weeks ago.. i noticed i would get slight sharp pains if i still had some food in the socket. one time the pain remained constant and couldnt figure out why, but after 10 min of rinsing a very tiny fine piece of food came out and the pain automatically went away..

not sure if that's what's causing your pain, but if your worried i would call your dentist and ask them about it. it's always best to be safe than sorry. good luck

How long does the pain last after wisdom tooth extraction?

Restrict your activities the day of surgery and resume normal activities as instructed by our office. Our recommendation for resuming normal activities will vary depending on the extent of your surgery. Place ice packs to the sides of your face where surgery was performed. Refer to the section on swelling for explanation.Source: Do You Know You Can Reverse Your Teeth Cavities Naturally? No rinsing of any kind should be performed until the day following surgery. You can brush your teeth the night of surgery but rinse gently. The day after surgery you should begin gently rinsing at least 5–6 times a day especially after eating with a cup of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of salt, or Peridex mouth rinse (if you were prescribed this). If you have been placed on antibiotics, take the tablets or liquid as directed. Antibiotics will be given to help prevent infection. Discontinue antibiotic use in the event of a rash or other unfavorable reaction. Call the office if you have any questions. In the event of nausea and/or vomiting following surgery, do not take anything by mouth for at least an hour including the prescribed medicine. If nausea and vomitting continues past the first post operative day, call our office for further suggestions. If numbness of the lip, chin, or tongue occurs there is no cause for alarm. As stated before surgery, this is usually temporary in nature. You should be aware that if your lip or tongue is numb, you could bite it and not feel the sensation. So be careful. Call our office if you have any questions. You should be careful when you go from the lying down position to standing. Due to the fact that you were not able to eat or drink prior to surgery, your body is moderately dehydrated. This makes you more succeptible to fainting. In addition, pain medications can make you feel light headed. You could get dizzy when you stand up suddenly. Before standing up, you should sit for thirty seconds and then get up.The pain and swelling should subside more and more each day following surgery. As mentioned previously, pain and swelling often peak 3 or 4 days after the surgery.
