Wisdom Teeth Question - Can Pain From Wisdom Teeth Come On Suddenly

Why do your wisdom teeth suddenly start hurting?

I'm 36. They can't still be growing! Why the hell do they suddenly start hurting once a year and make my gums all inflamed and sore and then just stop again??

Why do my wisdom teeth all of a sudden hurt?

I’m a dentist.

It is extremely unlikely that the popping in your jaw is directly related to your wisdom teeth. Popping in the jaw usually indicates a displaced meniscus (the mobile disc in your TMJ that separates your jaw bone from your skull).

It’s quite possible that your lower wisdom teeth are not hurting at all, and that the pain you think is coming from your wisdom teeth is actually coming from your TMJs. Referred pain like this is very common in the oral cavity and associated structures.

2 months after wisdom teeth removal, sudden swelling and pain?

4impacted wisdom teeth, Surgery went great, I didn't bleed super long, I experience pain but it all went away after a week. Though the left side of my mouth did the best.
The right side of my mouth had the most problems during recovery, hurting much more than the left. Even after a few months it still felt a bit weird to eat on that side.
The left side has very little pain, I can est pretty much anything on that side and it feels perfectly normal and fine.
So a few days ago dad told me I should try chewing on my right side, it felt very off. So I switched back to the left. Then the next day I felt a little sore, so I tried to take a look and ended up making it worse.
Now my cheek is quite swollen along with it being rather hard to open. It feels like my cheek is sticking to my lower gum. I plan to vist my dentist person on saturday. But...could you give me ideas on what the heck this could be...?

Is it normal to have some pain 5 days after getting wisdom teeth removed?

I had one of my wisdom teeth extracted (bottom left) exactly 19 days ago. I was injected with anaesthesia a few moments before the extraction. My jaw, lips and tongue went numb and I felt no pain during the extraction. I was asked to bite firmly on a gauze to stop the bleeding. Then I went home.About two hours later, I started to feel gradually increasing levels of pain and discomfort. Of course, the dentist prescribed painkillers and antibiotics for me to use thrice a day which continually brought down the pain (the pain kept coming up every 6~8 hours). I was also asked to “rinse” the cavity with warm saline water.Over the next 48 hours, the pain felt less and less intense, with the help of the painkillers. By the third day, there was hardly any more pain, only a very slight strangeness of feeling with my tongue that a tooth was missing.I stopped the painkillers completely on the fourth day and there was no pain anymore. I still continued with the warm saline water rinse for over one week; this greatly helps with the healing process. If by the fifth day, there's still some pain that you still have to use painkillers, I don't think it's normal; you may need to contact your dentist.

Do u throw up when your wisdom teeth come in?

NO! There may be some pain involved but pain so bad that causes vomiting is NOT common!

When people get their wisdom teeth surgically removed they will often vomit from pain, anesthesia, and stomach irritation from swallowing blood.

I would not correlate your vomiting with your wisdom teeth comming in, unless you are vomiting due to severe pain. If this is the case, you need to go to the emergency room.

Wisdom teeth causing a lot of pain?

Often times when the wisdom teeth are first starting to emerge, they push through the gum tissue a bit, then stop erupting for a few weeks or so, then the tissue is open and allows bacteria and food debri to get stuck underneath where you can't clean it out. The result is called "periocoronitis", which literally means "inflammation of the skin around the tooth". The good news is that this commonly flares up really bad then suddenly resolves for a while. It will come back again and flare up but you will get some relief from it soon. The best methods for easing your pain right now is to take 4 tablets of Ibuprofen (Motrin or Advil, but NOT aspirin or Tylenol) no more than 4 times a day (this is the same as prescription strength Motrin) and use a warm salt water rinse (use 1-2 teaspoons of salt to a small glass of warm water, rinse and swish it around the infected, sore area, then spit it out. Do this many times a day). The salt water acts to draw fluid out of the swollen gums and when the swelling goes down, you are less likely to bite on the tissue and continue irritating it.
This is only a temporary solution. The tooth will continue to try and emerge and this will keep reoccuring. If you aren't able to have the tooth extracted at this time due to the upcoming wedding and trip, this is the best I can advise. But please check with your dentist to have an xray and his/her evaluation of the situation too. They may put you on an antibiotic in addition to the treatments I've mentioned in order to squelch any infection in the area. Hope this helps!

Wisdom teeth suddenly coming in during pregnancy?

You should still go see a dentist anyway or ask them to refer you to an oral surgeon. Extractions in the first trimester are not contraindicated. We just prefer to do them in the second trimester. However, if there is pain involved, I think most oral surgeons would be prefer to do it and not risk waiting for the second trimester. In my thinking, a single extraction is much less risky to the baby's development than is a large infection or situation where a lot of antibiotics or pain meds would need to be used. With all respect, I don't think you should figure the money into this too much. This is about your baby's health.

The pregnancy and wisdom tooth eruption are coincedental.

Best wishes with this and with your pregnancy.

How long does the pain last after wisdom tooth extraction?

Restrict your activities the day of surgery and resume normal activities as instructed by our office. Our recommendation for resuming normal activities will vary depending on the extent of your surgery. Place ice packs to the sides of your face where surgery was performed. Refer to the section on swelling for explanation.Source: Do You Know You Can Reverse Your Teeth Cavities Naturally? No rinsing of any kind should be performed until the day following surgery. You can brush your teeth the night of surgery but rinse gently. The day after surgery you should begin gently rinsing at least 5–6 times a day especially after eating with a cup of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of salt, or Peridex mouth rinse (if you were prescribed this). If you have been placed on antibiotics, take the tablets or liquid as directed. Antibiotics will be given to help prevent infection. Discontinue antibiotic use in the event of a rash or other unfavorable reaction. Call the office if you have any questions. In the event of nausea and/or vomiting following surgery, do not take anything by mouth for at least an hour including the prescribed medicine. You should then sip on water, coke or ginger ale. You should sip slowly over a fifteen-minute period. When the nausea subsides you can begin taking solid foods and the prescribed medicine. If nausea and vomitting continues past the first post operative day, call our office for further suggestions. If numbness of the lip, chin, or tongue occurs there is no cause for alarm. As stated before surgery, this is usually temporary in nature. You should be aware that if your lip or tongue is numb, you could bite it and not feel the sensation. So be careful. Call our office if you have any questions. You should be careful when you go from the lying down position to standing. Due to the fact that you were not able to eat or drink prior to surgery, your body is moderately dehydrated. This makes you more succeptible to fainting. In addition, pain medications can make you feel light headed. You could get dizzy when you stand up suddenly. Before standing up, you should sit for thirty seconds and then get up.The pain and swelling should subside more and more each day following surgery. As mentioned previously, pain and swelling often peak 3 or 4 days after the surgery.
