Wisdom Tooth Question

Question about wisdom teeth: what happens if you don't get your wisdom teeth pulled and is it safe to leave them in? Is there any chance it will severely harm your health and well being in a negative way?

Wisdom teeth are a third set of molars that grow in the back of your mouth. While not everyone will develop wisdom teeth (some are not visible in the mouth, and can only be seen by x-ray), most people do. Some people only get two teeth, others may develop four. Wisdom teeth typically appear in the late teens to early twenties. Most dentists will recommend removal of wisdom teeth. As they grow in, wisdom teeth may become impacted (wedged between the jaw and another tooth), causing a need for removal. Many dentists will remove the tooth just to prevent this type of problem. Wisdom teeth may also come in crooked or misaligned, affecting the structure of other teeth in your mouth. They may also lead to swelling and overcrowding of teeth in your mouth.,So, while for some it may be safe to leave wisdom teeth in place, current dental recommendations favor extraction.

Wisdom teeth removal pain question?

I think everyone is a little different, but I can remember when I had mine taken out they had to be surgically removed and I didn't ever have much pain. But my sister's were just a normal removal and she was on codine for two weeks. So I wouldn't worry to much about it as long as you know it isn't a dry socket! If it really worries you, you can always call your dentist and ask.

I have a question about what to drink after my wisdom tooth extraction?

OK LISTEN TO ME!!!!!!!!! you can drink gatorade, milk, chocolate milk, water, milkshake, smoothies(just an idea). DO NOT DRINK THROUGH A STRAW!!!!!! do not drink orange juice! orange juice has an acid that will make the clot come out and give you dry socket. as far as the gatorade thing, i have never heard of it. you can drink koolaid too, just nothing through a straw or it will suck the clot out of your mouth and you will get dry socket too. no carbonated drinks for about 3 days. that is because the fizz acts as a suction on the extraction site. after 24 hours you can drink alcohol (if you are old enough) like liquor, cognac, whiskey, etc. but like i said, no beer, cuz of the carbonation. i think i got it all covered. hope to help.

Questions about wisdom teeth extraction?

i'm going to have my wisdom teeth extracted. however, they haven't grown their roots. is it okay if i'm gonna have them extracted now? or should i wait until they've grown their roots?

i asked this because my doctor told me that if the wisdom teeth that haven't grown roots are extracted, they will develop odontoma (benign tumor) soon. is that true?

Braces, retainers, wisdom teeth question?

I got my wisdom teeth out in september. I get so worried before I go through dental procedures, and I seem to go through a lot... :/

anyways, I was put to sleep (through an IV) and the last thing I said was "I feel dizzy", but I was happy, I remember smiling.
I woke up, and I was put in a room where I slept it off a little. Gauze was in my mouth to catch the blood from going all over the place. I went home, slept, took the vicodin they perscribed me, and I was better. I went to Dairy Queen later that night. I keep telling everyone, I'd go through the whole surgery if I got to miss more school. I thought school was WAY WORSE than this surgery.

The worst part was the holes left in your gums. It took about 3 months for the holes to fill up for me, and lots of times, food would get stuck in the holes, and that was annoying, but they fill up!

some dentists (the dentists that remove your teeth) can have you come in before the appointment and they can go over stuff with you.

Wisdom tooth/jaw problem?

The periodic swelling and tenderness in the soft flap of gum covering your wisdom tooth is an inflammatory condition called pericoronitis. It is caused by all the dirty things that gets caught underneath that flap of gum.

Just have your wisdom tooth extracted and you will never get pericoronitis there ever again.

As far as your jaw joint goes, that bump you see moving is called your condyle. When you open or close your jaw, the condyle slides forward (when opening) and backward (when closing) in the articulating fossa in your skull. The condyle is part of your lower jawbone, and some people do have prominent condyles that are visible as a moving bump under your skin. Unless you are getting wierd grinding noises in your jaw joint, I wouldn't worry about your jaw joint. Get your wisdom tooth taken care of because your pericoronitis seems to be the immediate problem.

Hope this helps.

Wisdom tooth problem?

my two bottom wisdom teeth had grown out about two years ago, and one of them was askew, now there's another one almost fully out now, that's also askew but it's on top of the straight one. i woke up this morning with a weird feeling in the straight bottom one and it made me think maybe it's the top tooth pressing on it. is that bad? am i going to have to pull any of them out? or will it be corrected through time (and pain :D)?

Wisdom Teeth Removal Question- holes after stitches?

Ok so i have asked several questions about wisdom teeth removal since I got them removed last friday but have gotten very little response so i have one last question.

I have dissovable stitches which seem to have completely closed the holes... and i keep hearing about keeping stuff out of the holes... when the stitches disolve will they open up? If they were open at all wouldnt the salt water rinse hurt?

I am going to insert my other questions in hope to get more responses.

I was just wondering when I can go back to eating normal foods. Such as just hamburger and hot dogs and things like that. And then crunchy stuff.

I have really been in very little pain ever since the removal just a little pain the last few days from other teeth moving which is gone now.

When are you OFFICIALLY out of the woods for dry socket?

When do did you disolveable stitches really desolve?

Does it work to just swish with salt water after the stitches come out instead of using the syringe(didnt get one)

Question regarding wisdom tooth extraction claim with unicare?

Insurance companies make their own rules on what they will and will not cover. SOme place them under medical, others under dental. You should investigate the plans to see which part of the policy should cover it.

Particial bony means that part of the tooth was located under the bone, and they had to cut it away. SOft tissue means the tooth was under the gum and an incision had to be made to get to the tooth. Every tooth, including wisdom teeth, will have it's own set of circumstances. The code is based on what conditions exhist in the mouth, and how difficult it is to extract it. The dentist may think it is only under the gum, then get inside to find bone on top of the tooth, and have to change the procudeure in the middle. Try getting a copy of the claim form and the phone number to the insurance company. Call them and ask why they are not covering it. The insurance companies are much nicer to the patient than they are to the dental office. Remember the insurance companies do not WANT to pay, so it is often a struggle to make them pay.
