With General Election

What are general elections?

In American presidential elections, a general election is held after the primary election.Primary elections weed out candidates so that the participating political parties can narrow their candidates down for the general election. The general election is when the American people get to cast their vote for president and the after all the electoral votes are counted, a candidate goes from presidential candidate, to president elect, and in January of the year following the general election, the president elect is sworn in as the president.

Who will win Malaysia's 14th general election?

Mr Najib will win the 14th GE with lesser majority. Why?Disarray oppositions. BN having advantage in 3 corners fight.Gerrymandering. - After GE14, check the popular votes vs seats won.Abusing government instruments. Populace still do not understand the the separation between government and ruling parties.

What is the difference between primary and general elections?

A primary election is one of several possible means by which a political party decides which candidate it wants to run for office. In many states, participation is limited to registered members of the political party. Other means of choosing candidates include the caucus or convention system (in which members of the party meet and publicly discuss and choose a candidate as opposed to having a state-run secret ballot) and the committee system (in which the people elected to run the political party slate the candidates).

A general election is an election at which the nominees of the political party and independents compete against each other with the winner being elected to a political office.

PM Modi said that state elections should be merged with general elections. Is it possible as it can be unfair to recently elected state governments?

It may look unfair but it will help country to save time and money which usually got wested in election process and promotion of political parties during frequent state and general election. But govt must be cautious that this must not damage the state Political parties. This can be possible if new law is passed in the parliament regarding this process and if This issue doesn't get politicise .Binifits of merging state and general electionReduce cost of conducting frequent electionsNetas and mantris will get time to do their original work.News channels will focus on other important things rather than electionPolitical stability will be ensure because there will be less political fighting between political parties. Also state government schools and state government employees will get relif from conducting frequent elections in schools , and giving their duties in it.This will be an innovative political solution which will motivate govt to take more such steps.

With general election just six months away, how do you rate the performance of Modi?

I will rate the NDA Government of Modiji as very good on the performance of last four and half year. The GDP is close to 3 trillion US Dollar. The ranking in ease of business is 77 from the last rank of 144. There is infrastructure development, industrial development, increase in food production and increase in over all growth of the economy. But there is stagnation in employment generation of white colar jobs. There is reduction in tech jobs. Many technical graduates are not finding suitable jobs and finding difficult to repay education loans. Housing sector is slow due to slow demand. All these aspects are blot in the performance of this Government. Most probably no special thought went to take care of technical graduates and other scientific manpower in our country. Waste of hitech manpower is very bad for a country. Migration to west is also reduced due to visa problems in USA, UK and other European countries. Any Government may come at the center. But the employment problem for technical graduates has to be dealt on priority basis. The Start up India is not visible due to lack of proper funding by the department of Industry and Science and Technology. The incubation centers in IITs, NITs and other Central Institutions are not able to make significant break through for lack of proper funding. These areas need attention. In the coming days high tech employment has to be given priority. Some cities have to play the role of growth centers for India. China pushed its cities as growth centers. Shanghai has a GDP of around 8oo billion US Dollar and Beijing has a GDP of more than 600billion US Dollar. Similar situation has to be created in India to provide sufficient employment to all sections of youths. Mayors of Chinese cities are visiting universities of the world to scout Chinese talents for start up and incubation with all supports in cities of China. This practice has to be replicated in cities of India. Top brains of India should be invited back to India with more facilities. All these steps can control the rot in innovation and employment generation. Hope the new Government takes care of these issues with new ideas. No more caste or religion conflicts in India for another ten years.

What may be the possible result of today's general election in Bangladesh?

A lot of questions like this were requested to me before the election and my answers to them were “Bangladesh Awami League”.The election wasn’t fair and Bangladesh Awami League achieved a huge victory. If the election was fair, AL would win but the difference of votes between AL and BNP would be less and the contest would be competitive. Why?Because of the development in the past 10 years, AL became successful to make the sentiment of the general mass cool. In every sphere, Bangladesh has made progress. The militants' groups and extremism have been uprooted, though a long way is still to go. AL president Sheikh Hasina has shown her political talent many times during her regime which is highly praised.BNP is now facing a lot of challenges after a series of incidents happened in Bangladesh. Khaleda Zia was sentenced to imprisonment accused of corruption and she is in jail now. Tareq Zia, the son of Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 21st August grenade attack. Tareq is now fugitive in the UK. The party is hardly suffering from a leadership crisis. Involvement with Jamaat-e-Islam has made BNP controversial and young generation is not taking it positively. BNP really needs to change its ideological beliefs and tendency of giving support to terrorism to get the support of the young generation. Conclusion: Just comparing the present situation of the country to the past, most of the Bangladeshis were ready to vote Sheikh Hasina.
