Would A High School Tutor Night Be Worth It

Are SAT/ACT tutors worth it?

I took the ACT for the first time and I scored a 26. I plan on re-taking them in the fall and I'm aiming to get at least a 29. I know Princeton Review does prep courses and tutoring, and I've looked at other companies like Kaplan and TestMasters. I took an SAT prep course at my high school when I took the SATs earlier last year, but they didn't really help too much. Most of the information they taught me was just basic information I already knew.

So I thought private tutoring (a more personalized study approach) would be the best way to go. They're really expensive though, so I'm just wondering, are they worth the money? Or is it best just to self-study with prep books and such? (I did order Barron's ACT 36 and Real ACT Prep Guide)

Thanks!

Can I advertise my tutoring business at a high school?

Many high schools have night classes. One of the many ways that I gather new students is by teaching night classes at a local high school.I have written the courses, I use their rooms and they do all the advertising, manage the students and fees and I get paid an hourly rate. This particular high school is quite happy for me to put my business logo and details in the footer of my notes.Sometimes students will contact me for private lessons and the advertising in order to get that student has cost me nothing. In fact, I am essentially paid for it.They also give testimonials, and some of them are quite awesome!I can then use these testimonials as proof of my authenticity, that I am a good teacher, and I can put it on my website, etc.A Win-Win situation to be sure!

What do parents look for when hiring a high school tutor?

My answer is geared to my area of expertise in the realm of online tutoring.Alison makes some great points about personality fit in addition to topic knowledge and teaching ability:Topic knowledge and teaching ability are obviously super important for any tutor, but one thing that's often overlooked is personality fit with your child. Try to find a tutoring service that shows tutor profiles, then pick a tutor that shares interests with your child. If your child enjoys the tutoring sessions and looks forward to them, he or she is going to be a lot more open to learning. In addition to these, I think it is crucial that parents ensure that any online tutoring service they decide to use does not jeopardize their child's safety. A safe and secure learning environment with screened and legitimate tutors should be top of mind for parents.   I recommend looking for an online tutoring space that allows parents to monitor and track their child's progress and view recorded tutoring sessions for extra safety. Where can a high school student find tutoring jobs online?

I’ve compiled a tutoring job search engine that not only includes student inquiries directly to The Knowledge Roundtable, but also pulls jobs from some of the biggest job boards including Indeed, Ziprecruiter, JuJu, and CareerJet. Having access to all of these job boards in one place might come in handy for a tutor searching for jobs. All the big tutoring companies like WyzAnt and Care.com post jobs to these boards, so you’ll see jobs from them in addition to traditional tutoring jobs at schools, learning centers, etc.For online tutoring, you might also consider applying to Tutorpace.com - Online Tutoring, Homework Help for Math, Science, English from Online Tutors.Note that not all tutoring companies will accept high school students as tutors. The Knowledge Roundtable does, so feel free to create a profile there. Unfortunately I don’t know which others welcome high school students.

Where can I hire a tutor online to do my homework?

you can submit your homework at www.myhwsolution.com they will find you an appropriate tutor for you who will give a complete solution to your homework. They charge 14.99 USD for each homework. They will give you complete refund of your money if you are not satisfied with their work.

Tutoring Elementary School Kids?

You dont have to be licenced to tutor in most places because you are not babysitting, you would be there while the parent is there most likely. Contact yor local SCORE office http://www.score.org (not a scam, its a SBA afiliated nonprofit) and set up a meeting with one of their volunteers. Its FREE and they can tell you what the local regs are and or where to find them. Yes, post or handout flyers at area churches, groceries, etc. Post ads on http://www.craigslist.org. Don't be afraid to sound boastful on your flyer, you need to sell yourself!!! I would say something like: Responsible straight-A high school student seeking assignments as a tutor/homework helper for K-5 graders. I would offer references if only just to attest to your reliability (ideally a teacher or neighbor). $10 an hour is a great rate for a highschooler who is tutoring. Good luck!

How do I pass high school? I know that this should be easy but I have practice every night until 5 then tutoring for failing classes the two days I don't. Every night I don't get home until around 6 what should I do?

Sounds like you might have reading comprehension problem. Is English your second language? Very hard to pass high school without mastery of language. What are you practicing for? Sports? Music? ROTC? other? If language is an issue, spend free time reading something you enjoy; take reading comprehension class in summer. Take out some reading/comprehension workbooks & teach yourself. Does your school offer ESL classes (English Second Language)?Unless you are a superstar & have a chance at a pro sport, lose the sports. Sport is useless waste of time- wish I could have back years of football practice- even if I did get scholarship.

HELP HIGH SCHOOL IS SLOWLY KILLING ME!!!!?

Please help I am in high school and it is the first time in my life i have had a c in a class. It is consuming my thoughts and i fear that i am going to have a low gpa. I am in all honor and pre AP classes. Any tips on how i can get through this hell. I am already staying up all night doing my homework. What is really killing me is the math. In 7th grade I did not study at all for math and I never listened to the teacher and made a 99 all year. Now I have a ******* c even though if I try as hard as I possibly can and no I am not planning on dropping any of my advanced classes because only losers who go to normal and not upper colleges do that. What do I do with my life?

Is it possible to get held back in highschool?

in my son's school, if you fail a class or 2, you repeat those classes, but keep whatever grade you're supposed to be in. if you fail every class, then yeah, you'd be held back. whatever caused you to have such a bad school year needs to be fixed. maybe a family issue needs to be resolved, worked out. maybe an issue with friends needs to be talked out. if it's more like something inside you that's preventing you from learning, then try to identify that problem....not able to focus? not interested in the class? dislike the teacher? too many or too few friends? whatever it is, you need to get that fixed. do you have too many things going on outside of school? if so, cut back on that so you'll have time for homework. it's possible that you may need more time to learn something than some of your friends. if so, fine. allow the extra time. you need the education. maybe start a study group with friends. instead of just "hanging out", have everyone grab their homework & set up a study night. it can be fun & you guys can sort of tutor each other. maybe have "math night" at someone's house, "social studies night" at another house, etc. before a big test, have "cram night". take turns reading study material to each other. keep the snacks flowing & see what happens.
