Would You Rather Live Near The Puget Sound Or Lake Washington And Why

For people who live in Washington State...?

I love it here but it's VERY expensive to live. The weather here is great. I love the change of seasons but the fact our winters tend to be very mild compared to other areas equally North on the East coast. I love all the mountains - going hiking, just seeing them from my front windows since I'm up on a hill. Also love all the water - rivers, the lakes, Puget Sound. Where I live it's only an hour and fifteen minutes to the Canadian border.

I live in Everett, WA, which is just 20-30 minutes out of Seattle. Where you choose to live really depends on what you can afford. Housing prices are way down right now due to the crappy economy. Rentals as well.

Shoreline, Washington-Ghetto?

My Husband and I are relocating to Washington in late May. We are trying to find a good apartment that's close to Lake City/Seattle.
We don't want to pay too much in rent, so we're looking in smaller cities around that area.
I found a pretty good place in "Shoreline" Washington. I don't know though if it's a good area. The building seems well kept and trendy looking, I just don't want to get my car stolen or raped after I sign a lease there.
I've only been to Washington once and don't really know much about that area, and wont have time to go up and look around in person before we move.

Please let me know anything about Shoreline and surrounding cities.

THANKS!

Would you rather live in Seattle or Portland? Why?

I've lived in Portland nearly all my life. My aunt and uncle lived in Seattle and we visited often.Seattle’s winter weather is cooler and more damp. In the summer, the marine layer often wont burn off until 4 or 5 in the afternoon.Traffic….Seattle is built around Puget Sound. Everywhere you go there is gridlock because of bridges and lines waiting for ferries. Portland is trying to catch up with people moving here in droves, bridges across the Willamette and the Columbia are getting updated or replaced. But we're not keeping up with population growth. With many people working in Portland but living in Vancouver, the two bridges are gridlocked during rush hour.Portland has a large hi tech community but Seattle’s job market is bigger.Lifestyle…Portland has a more down to earth vibe. We're more likely to eat at a restaurant with picnic tables instead of white tablecloths. There’s more to Portland than ‘Portlandia’Portland has breweries, wineries and distilleries. Do you like living in Washington State?

i lived there for a while ,okay so like a long time and i love it i LOVE it there it is great. there are little shops and little cafes and so many great things but some of the cities are tourist traps like forks, washington. forks is the twilight saga capital and there is a lot of touristy vampire stuff but its kinda fun to watch the fanatic's.if you love the sun its probably a bad match because its cold and rainy and rarely sunny.

When will it snow again in the Seattle, Washington area?

Posting a question that will eternally sit on Quora collecting answers is, perhaps, not a good way to get usable answers. We don't know what day you posted this on and existing answers will become out of date after each snowfall.Further, the “Seattle Washington area” is an extremely complex set of microclimates. The Eastside, areas north of Lake Washington, Queen Anne and Capital Hill, and areas right on Puget Sound can all expect different outcomes during snow events--ranging from none (Ballard) to two inches (Sammamish Ridge).Let me direct you to an amazing blog about Seattle area weather. Cliff Mass is a meteorologist who explains how forecasts are created and how they apply to the Seattle area geography.http://cliffmass.blogspot.com/

If I like nature and want to live in Washington state should I live in Seattle, on the coast or in a central location like western Puget Sound?

Washington state is full of nature. Your preferences in nature make all the difference.Do you prefer four separate seasons?Come inland. Eastern Washington has nature but more definite seasons. You'll need an air conditioner, rain boots, and a snow shovel. It also has wonderful mountains, canyons, rivers, and lakes. Nature is versatile depending on where you go but wildlife isn't as scarce. Are you a hunter? Game is more plentiful on this side of the state. The Washington coast can be grey, wet and often rainy. You'll have beautiful beaches where you can picnic, dig for clams or surf. While sunny days occur, you probably won't need an air conditioner in the Seattle area. You can enjoy similar mountainous hiking for example but less wildlife in parts.I could go on and on. Message me if you need more information. I've been nearly everywhere in this state.

What are the Pros and Cons of living in Washington State?

I've looked more into the state of Washington itself and was unaware of the geography. So, being clearly given the choice between ocean/Seattle, I pick the ocean. I really do not MIND being further away from a big city (as I am 3 hour away from St. Louis here), but I am more concerned about finding jobs in what areas we choose.

A BIG thing I forgot to ask, is about crime rates and the safety of individual towns. As I said before, I'd rather be far out of any city limits, but close enough that a trip there wouldn't be extremely inconvenient.

I am personally not a big fan of the cold, so the mountains are to be avoided. Cool weather would be FANTASTIC. My favorite season has and will always be Autumn.
