Why does it seem like children are more honest than adults?
Children seem to be more honest because they are spontaneous. They have not yet learned to think before saying anything out of consideration for other people's feelings or privacy. Later on, they learn that people should respect other people and think before they speak.
How do i get my children to listen and respect me and other adults?
You don't say how old they are? I'm really disappointed with the first few answers who offer no help at all for your situation! I'm going to guess they are teens? If so you might benefit from the triple P parenting workshops. My friends Teen daughter used to actually spit on her Mother! They tried this program and 2 years later she (teen) gets embarrassed when ever anyone mentions her old behaviour. She is 19 now and forever grateful for her parents consistency and dedication to her.
What do you think about children calling adults by their first name?
I think it's wrong, and shows a complete lack of respect.
Why do most adults underestimate children under 14?
It's not exactly so much as underestimating, but more of concern. Adults mostly have the best intentions for children, although they tend to [at times] make the mistake of stereotyping them. At times, it is true that adults have an upper hand when it comes to wisdom especially since they've gone through so much already. After all, they do say that experience is the hardest but best teacher. There are also some instances when this kind of mentality links to another. Considering the cliche image of wisdom earned through the years, the image of naive youth comes along. As such, some adults are not so open to modern children's perspectives. Some find it hard to let go of the fact that kids grow up so fast. Still though, they only do this with good intentions. So, it is not exactly a personal negation but an act [though sometimes exaggerated] done out of love and concern.
