Do Violent Video Games Influence Aggressive Behavior In Children?

Hi There, I am conducting research for a Media Studies project into whether or not violent video games influence aggressive behavior in children. Personally I believe that they do not influence aggressive behavior in a child unless the child is already known to be aggressive. This is because I believe that children with a more aggressive personality are the children more likely to play these sorts of games in the first place. I am also looking into the aspects of parents buying 18 rated games for their underage children. It would be greatly appreciated if you could give me your opinions on the matter?
Thanks in advance

What are you doing to empower women in your community?

I encourage women to pursue their educational goals. As an Admissions Representative in higher education I hear everyone's story and their continuous battle for change within themselves. An education is one of the few things that can never be taken away from us regardless of the situation. What better defense than being educated? Education provides you with options you may not have had before and opens doors that were once closed. It is the best legacy for our daughters so that they too can have options.

What is the difference between cultural relativism and multiculturalism?

Cultural relativism is an ethical theory, which suggests that people's idea of morality comes from the culture in which they are raised. We cannot say that anything is objectively right or wrong, because the morality is relative to the culture in which we find ourselves. For example, in Western countries, we tend to think that marriage should be between two people but in some cultures men take several wives. We should not try to force out morality on them, since what they do is right in their culture and we should respect cultural differences.

Cultural relativism seems very tolerant and politically correct, until you start thinking about much more troubling issues like torture, female genital mutilation, the stoning of women who commit adultery, slavery, and so on. When they think about issues such as these, most reasonable people would hopefully come to realise that morality cannot be culturally relative.

Multiculturalism, as I understand it, means that we should respect those cultural differences that are pretty harmless. If turban-wearing Sikh motorcyclists want to be exempted from the rules that say they must wear crash helmets, then what harm is there in making an exemption for them? Just because one culture is in a majority, it shouldn't necessarily mean that minority cultures have to be assimilated. Cultural diversity can enrich all our lives.
